Well that's pretty stud!
Looks like 1,000 yards from the picture.

Impressive with a muzzle loader.

FYI:

The Sharps 45/90 isn't a muzzle loader, it's a Cartridge rifle that uses Black Powder & a 500Gr + lead bullet!

I have a 45/70 Remington rolling block reproduction that use a BP cartridge. So I do know a little about long range shooting with BP cartridge.

Thanks for the lesson.

That's a respectable distance for anything though.

The picture makes it look further than it is. Furthest target is 888 yards, good guess though. The guys that constantly win these matches can read wind like a WWII Indian code breaker can break code!

i agree, I dont' think the general public needs a semi auto AR15 or similar, however, i can understand why some people do, so would have them licensed similar to how you licence concealed carry permits now,

they have just been banned here, with a buy back scheme, i always thought that they needed what we call an E Cat licence, which was a higher level of Gun Licence than a std one, but apparently they didn't when they did not meet the defintion of a MSSA, see most below for that

I'll throw my hat in the ring....exactly what part of personal liberty has anything to do with "need"? Do you "need" restaurants, cars, motorcycles, soda, candy, central air, fishing boats, homes (caves don't count), cooking utensils? Need is such a subjective term, and it rubs me the wrong way to have some elitist in gov't tell the citizenry what they do or don't need.

Exactly who in the holy eff is (insert favorite politician here) to ban anything?

As others have rightly pointed out, there is nothing magical about an AR-15; same basic rifle as an old wood-stock semi-automatic hunting rifle. It just looks scary to people that frighten easily....

Edit: remove any reference to specific politician...check

oops...I did respond to the Bernie reference. Sorry GuyB….I missed that part of orientation...I fixed it (and removed my Venezuela and Soviet Union references for good measure).

The problem isn't the " assault rifle" the virgina tech shooter killed 30 people with a glock 19 (9mm) and walther p22 both pistol. The weapon doesnt matter. It's the person.

I'm not trying to spark an argument just spreading information.

Odd range, but I guess it really doesn't matter.
They're just numbers, and 500 is as long as I've been.
One day, while the boys were going downrange, I whipped out my 742 in 30.06 sighted at zero at 180 yards (Distance to the feeder from my stand), and after I found the 4'X8' plywood target, managed 3 in a 4.5" group.
I was aiming at tops of weeds way beyond the target. Hahahahaha. Bullet drop was about 27".

I hear the questions, " why do you need this type of gun or why do you need so many guns?" Well, I also hear why do you need so many dirtbikes? Its the same principle. I like my guns and I like my dirtbikes. I own 6 dirtbikes and a large number of guns & ammo ( many of them semi auto "assault" rifles).

Yes, in fact there was a big push here in the US back in the late '80's to limit horsepower on some of the powerful liter class sportbikes that were coming out. There was carnage everywhere according to what the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) was telling everyone. They were one of the big instigators of it here in the US and couldn't understand why anyone would need that kind of powerful machine. Steve Kroft of 60 minutes did a real hack job on the subject when he was a new guy on their staff. Nothing ever became of it here but to no surprise the EU did enact limits (I think 100 HP) at some point. I think maybe today its a tiered program to limit power for beginners but I don't know for sure.

Dirtbikes create alot of carnage too both in terms of deaths and paralyzed victims that require expensive long term care. At some point the bean counters may push to put all of us motorcyclists in the crosshairs for limitations. Hopefully our love of all freedoms will keep it from happening.

I live in AZ... I build AR's as another one of my hobbies. We also are a constitutional carry state. We can concealed carry and open carry just about anywhere with no license needed. I have firearms... None of mine have ever decided they wanted to shoot anyone. The attack by politicians and political opponents on the inanimate object is absurd. It's all politics, nothing more. If you study it, the number of people killed by rifles is a VERY small number....

Banning semi-auto rifles from law abiding citizens is the same as cutting off your own dick because your neighbor has too many kids...

My 2 most recent builds, need glass for the precision (still deciding) and going to upgrade the optic on the pistol.

And everyone in the house is handy with an AR too... Including my daughter.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Interestingly (predictably?) enough those in America who do not care about the right to bear arms...are largely those who just don't like guns, don't use guns, don't understand guns, or are outright afraid of guns (there are exceptions)...and as a result they don't care about the 2nd amendment because it affects a freedom they don't value...But if that freedom can get taken, what freedom is next?

First they came for the guns...and I did not speak out--because I didn't like guns...
Then they came for the high horsepower motorcycles...and I did not speak out--because I don't like motorcycles
Then they came for the sugar...and I did not speak out--because I eat healthy...
Then they came for [whatever freedom you do value]--and there was no freedom left to defend it with.

If the government can take away the 2nd amendment...what freedoms can't they take away?

Call it whatever you want, we all know what we are talking about.

I realize that nothing will really change.

Thanks to the NRA, that have ensured our nation is flooded with guns, and they have worked very diligently to ensure as many people have access to them as possible.

We incarcerate more people than any other nation.

We experience a more mass shooting events than any other nation.

(4+ “points”) among our 4chan brothers.

More Americans yearly turn guns on each other than were killed on 9/11.

Yet some think is is just fine, so nothing will be done.

In my opinion, that is really the end of the story.

4chan wins, we will continue to kill each other, and we have nobody to blame other than ourselves.

Hasta.

Guns have to be the only thing where law abiding citizens are punished for the behavior of criminals.

Someone breaks the law and kills someone driving drunk...its the drivers fault...no call to ban alcohol or punish responsible drinkers.

Someone breaks the law kills someone with a gun...its the guns fault...must ban guns and punish law abiding citizens.

It makes absolutely zero sense to me.

I'm mean the guns get so much blame for this crap why not just let the murderer off the hook...I mean, guns are the problem...it wasn't the persons fault...let him go...and lets take away all the guns so he can't do it again. (That is literally the logic I see all the time.)
For some reason they blamed the cigarettes too, not the person sucking on them.

"Modern Sporting Rifle"

I think you're correct because what these guns are used for most is the sport of shooting targets. If they were used for killing everybody would be posting photos with lots of dead animals in them.

Yeah, it really is. https://www.nssf.org/msr/

It's fair to say that there is a "varmint" variety of the Modern Sporting Rifle too. It typically has a bull barrel, just like any hunting style rifle. There is no flash hider or compensator... For someone that doesn't know them, it's just another scary black rifle. But it's far less popular than something like a Ruger 10/22.

Not sure I want to post this, but I shot a swimming beaver at around 140 yards with the. 17HMR.
Target was about the size of a baseball, I guess.

Had I missed, I could have reloaded in about half a second. And maybe had another shot.

Ahhhhhh fuckit.

Funner than a 3 peckered goat.
It's so fun to shoot.

Here's mine, I hate the scope mounts, but don't care anymore.
The dog pic was an accident,
But that's 3 in that can at 100 yards.

If I try, I can find the exit pic, but I'm not going to.

If you don't believe that's 3 in the hole at 100 yards, well, then I'm a liar.

Say whatever,

But you don't want me shooting at you.
