I don't get around these here parts too much, so maybe you guys have already discussed it ad nauseum. Anyway, just wondered if many have jumped on the bandwagon...either years ago, or the last few weeks, days, etc...

I've been doing alright with it. Not as good as I should have because I have panic sold a few times....but it's the only reason my portfolio is green after a year in the red. My buddy sent me this screenshot from when he sold doge at the beginning. Would be worth $10,000 today on a $42 investment. Photo

I put a few hundred in when it first came around. I took 20k out last week and left 15k in. it was 25k again a few days ago. I took 20k out. left 5k in. its 11k again today. So 40k profit so far after just putting my rounded up to closest dollar change in it after buying other positions.

I took profit, but if I left my original investment in doge and etc I’d have an extra $10k right now 😬. I’m planning on throwing more in once a month every reset. I’ll worry about taking profits come tax time from now on.

I’m taping “be patient” on my bar pad.

|

5/6/2021 7:10 AM

I'm trying, no major wins yet only 40%. Looking into some others like DGB, XRP and some other really low priced stuff that may be able to get in on early

"So you're telling me there's a chance!!"

5/6/2021 7:32 AM

I had doge last year and sold all of it for a small profit. If I had held onto what I had I would have easily over $40k profit right now.

I put like $200 back into it in December and I’m over $6k in profit right now. I won’t panic sell again, I can tell you that.

To put it into perspective, Bitcoin was worth $1 a share in 2011. It's now hovering around $57k a share. Might not be a bad idea. I got in at around $.16 for doge. Put $100 in. Elon Musk is going to be on SNL Saturday and doing some doge name dropping, so expect it to jump again next week.

It will jump right before and after his appearance on SNL. Be careful buying in close to $1 though. I wouldn’t be shocked if it jumps to $1, then as soon as it gets there people dump off like crazy. I’m betting a lot of people have their sell limits set to $1. It will quickly drop, but hopefully it sticks around 60-70 cents like it’s been the last couple days.

What is a good platform to invest in this stuff? I am looking to play around with a couple hundred bucks.

|

5/6/2021 11:52 AM

I bought $50 worth of Doge.

Careful, you’re about to go down a massive rabbit hole that will have you completely re-evaluating what currency and it’s uses really are. My life and world view has changed dramatically in the last 6 months.

I highly recommend checking out Real Vision (also available on the podcast app) for some great market commentary and analysis. They cover the whole broad spectrum of finance, from bonds to crypto, in such a way that it’s understandable to even to simpletons like myself. Below are two videos I find extremely fascinating and really paint a broad picture of just how big of a disruptive force these assets will be, and Raoul is nothing short of a brilliant orator.

Crypto.com is good. Robinhood is super easy to use but the bastards shut down buying and selling anytime a stock starts to gain significantly.

Ok nevermind, screw Robinhood. I didn't realize they were having so many issues. I actively trade on TDAMERITRADE. 😊
No crypto on TD though.

FFS don’t even think about going through robinhood, the fact that someone would direct you toward that platform and have the gall to post an affiliate link is incredible to me. They clearly don’t have the capital to cover themselves on heavily traded assets, and we’ve seen how this has been handled in the past (aka very badly for retail investors).

For purely crypto I would recommended Coinbase or Binance. Coinbase has a flat 3% fee for buying crypto (I don’t believe there is a fee to sell) and is extremely intuitive to use, plus they are North American focused. As far as solvency is concerned, they have more users than Robinhood and Ameritrade conbined. . . Binance has much lower fees, however for a beginner it can be very overwhelming and the potential to make an error is greater. There is absolutely no reason to waste your time or put yourself at risk trading on Robinhood.

So that's a no for you then? 😁 I forgot to mention some people hate it too. For learning it's an excellent tool and others couldn't handle the sell either. I use TDameritrade for active trading with a couple exceptions but Robinhood made it simple to get started. No biggie. Best of luck to you all.

You can’t transfer crypto from robinhood to another wallet.

It is very easy to use, which is nice. But they’re shady. Wait til the SEC completes their investigation against them. It’s going to be interesting.

|

5/6/2021 7:06 PM

I am highly invested in the Coinbase stock and would like to buy some crypto with that platform as it seems very popular.

Coinbase is easy and you can transfer it to coinbase pro where you can place stop losses on it and sleep a little easier. They don’t have doge but I’m not sure how much more it can go. 13 wallets hold 26% of it and 700 have half. When they decide to sell look out. I’d recommend just buying something and holding for a bit. Trying to time moves doesn’t work out most of the time especially for people new to crypto. It can go up 30-50% in a day but can come down just as fast. There will be corrections of 30% on the way up. FTX or Binance US are a couple other options. At least with those you actually own it, can send it to other exchanges or put in a wallet. I don’t know of any US exchanges where you can get xrp now because they are under investigation by the SEC. I wouldn’t buy that one anyway but that’s just me. I started in mid 2017 and did well but held too long. I’m prepared to leave some profit on the table this time and have my goals of where I’ll exit. I will add that when it comes tax time coinbase will send you a clear print out of your trade while with the pro version you get a massive list all together and if you trade a lot will need software to help make sense of it.

I also wouldn’t put in more than your comfortable losing most of it. It can happen.

I set up an account through Gemini. Pretty simple to use so far. I am just playing around right now.

Exactly. I put like $200 into it back in December. If I lose it all, so what. If I make some money (which I currently am) then great. I see buying Doge as more of buying a lottery ticket than an investment.

Who knows, maybe Musk and Cuban have something legit planned for it and it’ll be worth some money. Or it’ll tank and I’ll lose part of $200. It’s not end of the world stuff. Those who are investing their life savings are morons unless they invested months ago and sold out within the last week. If that’s the case they’ve made a lot of money. 1 of 2 things will happen with this. 1. There are plans from Musk and Cuban, as stated above. 2. The fad will go away and it’ll drop significantly in value.

I bought Litecoin back 2018 (used Coinbase, very simple) Unfortunately I bought in at the absolute highest value its ever been ,lol. Just recently it came back to NEARLY what I paid, so I'm still slightly negative. You need to be as savvy as a good DayTrader to really work the Crypto, or pick the right one at the right time and just let it ride. I don't have the time nor the chutzpa to really take chances though.

Buy what you’re comfortable losing and forget about it. Check on it next spring.

5/7/2021 8:52 AM

I have 2.466 shares of litecoin up 685. I put a little in all the crypto available on there and they are all up for once. I guess people accidentally bought the wrong Etherium and Etherium classic went up crazy. I just sold 4k of it and left 1k in. I only invested $211. I figured I would sell some just incase it was a fluke. I'm up like $8 on my .0905 of bitcoin and my .0105 share of bitcoincash. Doge and Etherium classic already paid off well at around 44k profit and still sitting at 9k up and 1k up today. Definately a better risk than a night at a casino for most.

i made about $5k in 3 months with XRP. just sold it yesterday, waiting for a couple others to drop a little then dropping the whole amount on it.

my dad bought about $20k ETH back when it was $500 each. he's done really well so far, they are saying it should go north of $5k per share in the next week or two. he's also done really well with LiteCoin.

i'm pissed at myself, i almost bought a couple grand of DOGE back when it was .06 each.

ps... i was using CoinBase but they suspended trading XRP. i moved it all over to Uphold and really like it.

I tried to buy xrp today too on coinbase and they wouldn't let me. Damn commies. Every time I find something I want to buy I usually have to dig through coinbase and trust wallet to see which one will let me do it.

i searched around for a couple weeks before finding Uphold.
