I may need to add that I'm at the point of using reading glasses.

You can get magnifying insert lenses that fit behind most popular brand helmet lenses.

I have to use either those, or try wearing readers.

This. I just wear my 2X readers underneath the helmet.

I’ve got a speedglas as well but I have the newer 9100x series. Much bigger viewing window and the head gear on it is amazing.

If the reading glasses don't work go see an eye doctor. Looks like you got a good helmet.
I didn't accept I needed glasses till I couldn't get my eyes to focus on gun sights (iron sights). Sometimes we don't notice how bad things are except in particular situations.

Depends on the job, currently working between 48 and 52.

I've been told and from what I have read for every 1mm you need 30 amps??

I'm self educating here as tig is not commom in our city and the few specialist around are either not keen on giving lessons or are to busy.

Im not new to welding, stick, mig no problem but it the small tig jogs I find challenging and im convinced its to do with my eye sight.

Really? Man you can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a guy with a Tig rig.

I work in an industry that requires a lot of Tig work so I guess it's not such a mystery to me.

My advice is to get a magnifying lens for your hat, and practice. You seem to have gotten past the "how the hell does this work" phase.
But you really need to be able to see what you are doing.

As for the AMPS question....
The correct answer is "whatever it takes".

Am I welding a thin wall stainless steel sanitary pipe, or 1/8 inch chromoly?

You've a good helmet there , Boomslang . I've used a 1990s model Speedglass for most of my work.

It's your Eyes.......... Glasses or Cheater lense, Boomer! Suck it up, I took far too long to face the fact that my failing eyesight was a Big problem. Though, now my biggest problem is 'the shakes' - initial stages of Parkinson's, unfortunately.

With my car chassis building, I got an Eastwood Panoramic, for a HUGE main view area, And the Bloody Big automatic Side panels, as when I'm crawling through the tube chassis, I'll often be wedged ( body and / or head) between tubes, having to look through the large side ports. I wish had stumped up the few hundred dollars more for the 3M Speedglass equivalent, as the head gear of the Eastwood is utter crap, it just does Not stay on my perfectly formed head when in precarious positions.

I've made Bicycle and Motorcycle frames ( and medical equipment - well, many other 'things') for 5 decades now, but in the last few years, through a mates racing, I've got into car chassis fabrication. It's interesting and Different to what I've done for so long. And, far less precise when it comes to the welds as it's thick tubing, compared it some .4 / .5mm bicycle tubing I deal with, so very often.

Some examples of car chassis I'm making :

I'm also getting into making 'E' Off Road Wheelchairs ( as I'm getting very close to needing such a thing ) - Long travel DH / Rock Crawler type ones. I'm going to have the Trickest Wheelchair among all of the Old Bastards at the Supermarket!

Oh, if you haven't, check out Welding Tips and Tricks. Jody is a phenomenal communicator / teacher. He's a great source of Welding knowledge. Lincoln ad Miller have some good stuff in their corporate sites, to.
