Parenting is so easy and so hard at the same time. Steep learning curve. I’ve never been more fatigued in my life, but have so much energy at the same time. It’s so bizarre.

I am worried about my dogs. My Rufus took a sniff. And was like...ok. Human. I think. And went about his business. Kicks his normal routine. Lounges around the house per usual. Not much different than without the baby. Not any different actually.

My other pooch zeezee: however, is infatuated with the baby. She was a rescue and is truly a wonderful, fissile and loyal dog. But she Whines constantly when the baby whines. Now some might think this is cute. But I don’t. Because the only time Zeezee whines is when I’m killing ground hogs, ducks or small game and are retrieving them. She’s over interested in the baby. I’m slowly introducing but not sure how to go about it. So much so that my zeezee has altered her routine. She doesn’t want to go outside and do her normal property perimeter checks. She hangs out by the door. And lays down under my chair if I’m holding the baby and if my wife is feeding she tries to get as close as possible (on the ground). I’m worried she’s confusing this baby with game or a ground hog and doesn’t yet understand she’s part of the pack as a master human......

Any of you guys dealt with pooch introduction before ? I don’t want zeezee to hurt my baby. I’m scared she might because she tried killing Rufus when he was a puppy. And she was sneaky about it. She’s incredibly smart and cunning and I have been watching her like a hawk.

Hmmm, not something to ignore. I'm sure the internet is full of info about protective dogs and new babies. Not to freak you out but as a 1 year old I was pulled from my crib by my parents great Dane. They sewed me up good but one ear is lower than the other...glasses are always crooked. Chicks dig scars but girls are pretty sensitive about their own. Just keep an eye out...we all love our dogs but...well, you get what I'm saying.

See this is the shit that worries me. I told my wife she is capable of that. She stuck her head into the bassinet last night and was sniffing. And I was like oh my god if I was asleep she might of taken the kid.....

So it’s wierd because their routine is to sleep on our floor. I’m gonna piss them off by keeping them kenneled at night.

Buddy, I didn't mean to freak you out but I'm glad you are aware. I would definitely do some research about successful integration. It might not be that hard just takes effort. Calm yourself new papa.

I am sure you guys really love your dog, but that won’t compare to how you love your child...the dog won’t be near as important. Point is if you are at all concerned the dog could attack your daughter ( which it sounds like you are) - keep it away.

Think about plowboy’s story, he is actually lucky to be alive.

It’s 50/50. She isn’t showing aggression. She’s just showing a lot of interest. I got her on the couch next to us today. Slowly trying to introduce her to the baby. Setting firm limits. She’s a great dog.

Glad you are aware of the dog issue. I don't know what I'd do other than make sure your dogs know that the baby is higher up the totem pole than they are. Dogs don't have a problem with new animals after they figure out the ranking; that's what all the initial fuss is usually about when you bring in a new dog. They aren't jealous, they aren't angry. They just want to know who's boss.

Do you allow the dogs to get up on your couch or on your bed? If not, make sure they see the baby on the bed and on the couch.
Do you eat first, then feed your dogs after you eat dinner? Make sure the baby gets fed first too.

It's little things like that you need to do; basically just drive home the fact that you are #1, wife is #2 and the baby is #3. The dogs are #15 and #16. Laughing

Talk to a real dog trainer; they may have some better insights.

Congrats on the baby Georgie. I'm 6 months into being a Dad and it is awesome, enjoy it.

My dogs were completely fine with the baby but they are very gentle. We do use a radio controlled beep/shock collar (only have to shock once then beeps work after that) on the younger one who is still a bit excitable.

My rescue is the one that’s interested. I’m slowly introducing. She’s not scaring me as much. She cut down the whining. The other dog could careless. Sniff sniff....eh ok I’m goin to lay down in my spot now. He’s gonna be planted under the height chair waiting for a handout.

They’re gonna be real confused when we move in two weeks. PinchSideways

Just keep an eye out, I thought we were going to have problems but after about 2 weeks it got better. Our dog had diarrhea and all of a sudden started chattering her teeth and stuff. It was the weirdest thing and definitely something we didn't want to deal with having a new born.

We did exactly what you are doing just eased them into being friends so I think you're on the right path. They'll be besties before you know it!
