Got back from Trinity Lake last week and thought this was cool. My Dad bought this boat new in late '71 and has continually refined it over the years. He's 74 years young, but still enjoys putting his foot on the loud pedal! The ladies still enjoy it too. cool No wonder I'm a gear head...had no choice!

P.S. Thank you Chevy for making big blocks!

Is that the same kind of boat seen in the movie The Great Outdoors?

Love it. Friend of mine in high school, his dad had one similar to it. Our senior year he freshened it up with custom paint and a 6-71 blown 468 big block. It was pretty sketchy but I remember the same look on his face while hauling ass down the river.laughing Good times!

We grew up in the Bay Area. The looks and thumbs up my Dad would get when he was towing through Oakland were priceless. That Brown Sugar name on the side of the hull got some likes!

My roommate had one of these jet boats. I swam that thing about a half a mile back to the ramp against a light wind. Boat died while we were taking it for a test run from its previous trip on the water. Him and his dad started tinkering with the engine and the wind started pushing us across the lake a bit. I hopped in with a rope and started swimming. Think it took about an hour and a half of swimming to get it that half a mile.

Fun boat when it worked. I only experienced it working a few times.

Oh yeah, every boat has a story or two or three or more. This one's no different, especially when we used to use it more.

It hydraulic locked (with same scoop) on the Delta in the mid-late 70's. That's how the 455 went bye bye and the 468 inserted.

It was on the shore (at speed at nite) on the same Trinity Lake 25 years ago with me driving. That's how it got the new bottom that I paid for.

Last, but not, least, it was on fire in 2005 on the Delta (with me driving again). Electrical issue that sparked and caught the fumes on the top of the driver side tank on fire. I can only suppose the full fuel tanks saved us. Was able to put out after 30 seconds of lake water and fire extinguisher.

I will say this, Santana "Samba Pa Ti" sounds really good on the sound system with just the Wife in a secluded cove. So, all (the above) well worth it!

Still see a few jet boats (old ones, not talking about the new SeaDoo/Yamaha boats!) running around on Lake Chelan now and then but it kind of seems that most of those guys are down on the river now. The lake is a little too “high rent”!

Lake Chelan still has some hydro races, and their is an annual event upriver at Pateros, too. Not the Unlimited classes, though.

Haven’t witnessed it myself in many years, but you used to catch the Evans team running their Unlimited out on the lake sometimes if they were doing some repairs and needed to do some shaking down, etc. I remember getting calls from friends in Chelan while I was in Wenatchee and if I wasn’t absolutely buried in work I’d head up right away just to get an hour or two of watching an Unlimited skim across the water.

Good times.....
