Any recommendations? I know the 10/22 is popular. Price is decent. Anything else? Looking to plink around at targets and critters.

Grew up shooting an old Nylon 66 my pops still has.

Yea that rifle is how I trained my wife on ar15 platform. Quiet, no recoil. Similar action. It’s a tack-driver. Can be had fro around $400. And honestly you can defend yourself with one of need be.

You looked at the savage rifles? The 10/22 is a good gun but I'm a fan of bolt guns. Especially for .22 as some of the semis can be real picky about ammo to fully cycle and isnt the point to shoot as cheap as possible?
I have a Marlin XT22 and love it but the magazine sucks. Rounds try to feed nose down.

I have that same one with a little scope for dispatching annoying critters of all types. Works just fine.

Depends on what you want to be able to do with it and also on your personal taste. Me and my boys really like the Henry for just plain old fun/plinking.

Yeah I have a problem getting my Ruger 10/22 to cycle certain ammos. In fact it's harder to find ammo that will cycle it fully than ammo that won't.

Bolt gun or lever action gets my vote. I also like a tube magazine on the Henry's.

Check out a Marlin model 60. Great semi-auto, tube fed 22LR. I have had mine over 30 years. Shoots any ammo I have put through it. They are about $190 at Bass Pro. I have a Tasco 4x15 scope on it.

It keeps the chipmunks and squirrels in check. Taken a few groundhogs down as well at up to 100 yards.

Yep was going to say Marlin model 60. I have their 795 which is accurate, has last rd hold open and, for me, has been a reliable little plinker. That said the stock trigger isn't anything to write home about and the mag release is abominable... I'm going to make a wood stock for mine with my dad at some point for fun.

For sheer upgrade/messing-around options you really can't beat the 10/22. The 15/22 is great in this regard also. Another option that I only mention because it hasn't been brought up yet, is if you have an AR or Mini 14 already, then a .22lr conversion kit.

Another vote for savage here. Been a big fan of their rim fire rifles, the accu trigger is hard to beat!

I have several Ruger 10/22s and they are my favorites but , I have lots of other 22s lever and bolt action and like them all but the Rugers have lots of stocks and other ways to customize but I dont think you can go wrong on any of the recommended 22s in the other replies as they are all quality rifles.I use mine to target shoot and assassinate multiple raccoons and a few skunks.

Damn straight I have two. A newer Marlin and an old Glenfeild that belonged to my uncle.

Marlin Papoose or Ruger 10/22 were decent. I liked the Marlin because it broke down. The Ruger although I left it stock, could be easily modified.

Screw the. 22, and get yourself a. 17HMR.

Nuclear. 22.

Funner than a 2 peckered goat.

Allows reaching out to 150 easy. Great fun.

Thanks for all the replys. Really shitty time shopping for guns right now. But I wanted iron sights and the option for any optic. So I went with this:

Thompson Center TC22 - Its a 10/22 clone but has a fully machined receiver and rail all in one, stainless bolt, threaded barrel, magpul stock,10/22 mags work as well.. Comes with what you see

You should have a great time.

I put the. 17 in because of where we are, but man they are fun.

This is a few at 100 yards.

Thats super cool! Get some different kinds of ammo and see what it likes. Federal is usually my go to. Like mentioned before some times those semi auto .22s can be picky about ammo.

Do you have the german SK amunition in the US?Here in europe they have the best low budget 22lr amunition on the market with the best accuracy. My choice was the SK standard plus.

CCI always served me well. It’s been several years and I imagine there’s better stuff out there. Good point on using different ammo.

Magnum research carbon. Trust me, you will thank me later! If you want custom? Volquartsen makes some really awesome rum fire rifles. I love my 17hmr, insanely consistent.
