Past two weeks almost all NASCAR championships from ARCA to the big Monster Energy Cup series are started. But tonight the Daytona 500 ended in tragedy with a horrific crash for Ryan Newman.

At the moment their is no info about his condition. Lets keep him in our prayers. Denny Hamlin took his second consecutive win at the Daytona 500, his third one of his career but that won't be the headline in the papers tomorrow.

Joe Gibbs issues an apology for the Denny Hamlin team celebrating winning the #Daytona500 after the Ryan Newman wreck. Says they did not see the severity of it and are praying for him. Somber.

My wife and I watched the last hour of racing tonight after work. When I saw the video of the black screens being used to shield the public’s view of Newman being put in the ambulance.....that was horrible. It’s so good to read that while his injuries are being reported as serious they are not believed to be life threatening.

Newman has always been outspoken about the dangers of bump draft racing. I didn’t know until tonight that he has a Bachelor Science degree in Engineering from Purdue University.

Most guys use the Lajoie seat that Randy has been improving for years along with his son,Corey

It's Corey that that takes Newman on his hood which was a neck stretcher for him,his car was caved in pretty bad.

He collapsed after getting out holding his nuts and guts

The fuel dumping out ,if it would lit off things would went real bad
I just saw oil pouring out. Not that doesn't light off as well. What I watched in real time and it was too viscous for fuel. Glad that none of it became a fireball..

When I first saw that close-up I was thinking oil too, mostly due to the color, and if it was fuel I'd have to think the vapors would have ignited that close to an open flame. But man, that was a lot of fluid. Is there an oil reservoir in the back of those cars?

I thought that was coolant running out of the engine. It was probably a combination of all the engine fluids during that horrible crash.

Has there been any news on Newman’s condition?

Very little information other than serious but not life-threatening injuries as reported yesterday. Interestingly there's no NASCAR race day or any of those television shows that are usually on after the big race either. Not a good sign. Get well soon Ryan hoping for the best.

i see that the latest update from his team says he is talking to his family, which is a good sign,

Something is going on I feel.

If it was me and I'm paralyzed this is the way I'd handle it.

Obviously hope to be wrong but he never moved and was like a sack of potatoes when they wrestled him out and on to the stretcher.

And,if it was me I'd tell them to roll the car over to get me out telling them I'm fine just to get it over with.

Don't think they could've gotten him out without rolling it over really.

Yeah,hope I'm wrong

Same thought I had today, Hillbilly. I hope very much that it’s not the case and he’ll be fine.

Rarely, if ever, is there not some sort of update within a few hours as to the severity of the injuries. It does seem peculiar that there’s not more information available.

Chris Buescher screwed that whole thing up I don't know why he got behind Denny in turn 3. He should have stayed behind Blaney and let the 3 Fords pull up front and then settle it in the trioval.

You can't lift on the last lap of the Daytona 500. None of them did.

I should clarify I'm not saying that Chris Buescher was responsible for the Newman crash on saying that Chris was responsible for Denny Hamlin being able to get a run and win the race. Denny has established himself as the best plate racer in the series those Fords should have hung that Toyota out to dry.

Every big crash teaches nascar a little more about safety. Amazing he walks outta Halifax after watching that. I was definitely sick watching that crash.

Amazing. That is one tough SOB regardless of all the safety features.

Can't wait to hear his perspective on the crash and what was going on in that car, upside down, sliding on fire across the finish line.
