If you search, you will found thread upon thread about neck braces: which brand to wear, how they save you, how they kill you, all kinds of great and useless information that contradicts itself. Personally I do wear a brace. I do feel safer with it on, and I have had a pretty bad crash with it on. I have no idea if it helped or made the situations worse, nor can any doctor tell me or anyone without a doubt in their mind that is saved them or hurt them (but I am glad I had it on). The best and safest thing to have going for you on a motorcycle is your confidence. If you feel more confident with it on, then I would wear it. Go to a local shop and try a few on and see what fits. I wear the alpine stars, but only because I am a bigger rider and it seems to fit the best with my size.

I notice you have a two stroke in your profile pic. Neck brace might not be that big of a deal, as the four strokes are the ones that have a tendency to endo because they can't panic-rev like a two stroke. That being said, it can't hurt. I've never ridden with the Alpinestar but I have the economy version of the Leatt and I don't really notice it except in bowl turns.
I see you are in Newport News -- I'm in Suffolk. Where do you ride?

I was riding this last weekend and over jumped a tabletop by like 10ft, i strained my neck and the Doctor said a Neck Brace would have prevented this. I ride at some of the local tracks. You've got VMP, ECMX, RCMX, Southfork, Lake Gaston and there a motocross track in Goldsboro, North Carolina. It Called Busco Beach, its mainly known for 4 wheeling trails, but they have 3 MX tracks out there. Last time i went, it was very well maintained too. Jumps are extremely huge either, i have a good time out there, another good thing is, if you get tired of the track you've got miles and miles of trails to ride,

Personally I feel almost "naked" without one I think it's all a personal preference though.

Im not a fan, had the a-star brace. they have no real proof they actually help. We've all seen those videos like that chick at enduro cross that claims the brace saved her life, funny thing about that is thats her assumption not a fact. And assumptions are what seem to get ppl to buy these braces. When i was trying to sell my brace the guy buying it, was like "dude i cant get hurt i need a brace" this whole safety net. for the 15 year old girl on a quad its a good idea.

I haven't road a 2T in years but I don't remember them panic reving any different than a 4t. The 2t doesn't have engine braking like a 4t, but both will panic rev.

On a side note, I went over the bars hard off a high speed double. I was already pinned when I hit the kicker on the face so there was no recovery. Front fender hit the ground first, I couldn't bail but the neck brace didn't allow me to tuck and roll how I would like to have. My helmet planted in the sand/dirt mix, I felt my helmet put pressure on neck brace and heard/felt it going through my clavicle. Did the neck brace save my neck, maybe. Did it allow me to tuck and roll, nope. Did it break my collar bone, yep. I ended up with 2 plates and 6 pins in my collar bone, but who knows it could have been worse or it might have just been a bell ringer. I made the choice to stop wearing one after that, but I am waiting for this Atlas brace to come out so I can check it out.

It just seems like a very strange coincidence that we have had so many spinal/neck injuries since switching to four strokes, but I guess with the internet you also hear about every one of them now as opposed to the pre internet dark ages. Still... Button, Fonseca, Henry, Before that, I just don't remember hearing about many top teir guys having this type of injury (other than Bailey.) Again, maybe it's just a perception because you hear about it every time now.

I think once the four stroke hits the rev limiter it stops pulling the front end up, where as a two stroke just keeps revving.

Side note -- dude that sounded like a terrible get off!! I broke my collarbone a few years back in a much less dramatic crash, but it was actually before I got my leatt.
