I always though adding carbon black to the rubber is what made tires durable and controlled the amount of flex. Bicycle tire companies tried real colored tires and they sucked bad and wore out in days. It may have been Duro brand if I remember correctly.

Michelin had red, yellow and blue maybe in '04. We had a yellow set given to us, they were yellow all the way through and they wore like steel.

Innova Tires use to make full yellow tires mostly used by the freestyle guys. They sponsored Brendan for a while with the yellow tires on his Cobra. They were yellow rubber and not painted. (Might be what Travis is rocking in the above pic)

Yeah Innova also had the camo tires which I thought were a cool design.

Travis Pastrana at the Gravity Games circa 2002

I actually don't mind the look of colored wheels all that much. I've always loved Travis' style. Whether it was his riding style or his racing kit, he always had something new and innovative while still looking good. Those early 2000 M2R helmets were the tops!

Okay granted this wasn't the cleanest of set ups, I might actually prefer this over the two two bikes aesthetically. Mind you all that these were both PR campaigns so try not to take things to literal.

These tires are well-traveled. They're produced in Brazil before being sent to Italy for the yellow coating, then back to the U.S. Some love them, some hate them, but you can't miss them. We'll see what the guys opt for during racing, but they didn't seem to slow them down, and they grabbed lots of attention. Credit: GuyB
