xr/crf 80/100 air filter straight to carb

Edited Date/Time 6/26/2018 5:27am
I have a 2006 crf80 pitbike that I would like to put a uni air filter straight to the carb without the airbox. I am wondering if anyone has done this or know's what uni filter I need to use, do I still use a crf80 air filter?

Is that for a standard airbox setup or is that straight to the carb

Pointless mod. Remove the choke plate if you want some free horsepower.

Straight to it. My buddy did it to his XR100 when racing go cart tracks. Not sure how much it adds to it, but a lot of guys seem to do it.

You will find that this set up will reduce air flow.

How would you go about doing that
I removed it from my 100 in probably 2002. So it has been a bit haha. I believe you remove the two screws holding the choke plate to the shaft. Remove plate and slide out the choke shaft. Makes it a pain the in ass to start when it is very cold out...But frees up a bit of horsepower up top.

The stock system has well thought out plenum considerations.

On my xr100 I removed the snorkel piece on top of the airbox and cut it out larger, then covered it with steel screen to keep larger debris out. I also cut the muffler off and welded on an old 2 stroke silencer. Just doing these two mods made a noticable difference in power after rejetting.
