Ive been running c-12 straight up but its getting hard to get in my area. about 68 bucks for 5 gallons. should i run 50/50 with pump fuel? ive got a couple 2009's mainly stock but one has vforce and a pipe.

Totally a waste of money to run anything other than pump gas in a stock bike. I have dynoed Cobra and KTM 65s, and YZ 85s with pump and C12. All lost HP with the C12 over pump gas.

I tried diesel but I find gasoline works better.

C-12 50-50 with pump runs better IMO. I don't get the pinging on the top end like I do off of straight pump. I'm at sea level with fairly dry heat. I personally notice a difference, not powerwise, but strictly the motor seems to run a little less stressed on the pipe.

Why not just try pump gas (93) and see how it runs? It will probably take less time than reading all the speculative answer around here! Smile

I don't really get this expensive fluids? Really necessary for 99.9% of us? Love the smell though! Smile

pump fuel with a pro-circuit pipe pinged on my 06. i took it off and ran the stock one and then my first 09 i ran the stock pipe/pump combo. powerwise i do not notice a difference but i figured it would be better for the engine if i used c12.

In my 08 YZ250 I run Pump Gas with 25% C-12. PC pipe, PC silencer and V Force reeds. Other than that the bike is stock (including stock jetting). Never pings, bike runs awesome.

Unless you've upped your compression the only thing C-12 is good for is the smell.

I'm pretty sure this is more of an jetting issue than anything? I have newer seen any test, or tuning tips with your bike and those rather limited mods where they suggest race gas.

Maybe you should ask MXA, or more easily search their site. They seems to be rather on top of these things and also answer mails (Jody has answer a couple of mine), or try Thumpertalk. They have a YZ250 forum where you can ask. I usually succeed more there than here with my tech questions.

YZ's ping on pump gas. Try leaded Sports racing gas. 112 octane.

Despite jetting? I though pinging was because the bike was running lean? Maybe the solutions is even simpler by just raising the needle some clips?

Damn, I'm on thing ice here...

Just saying of course!

No he has a very good point!

Here in CA I was told by, of all places Malcolm Smith Motorsports that unless I have a license of some kind related to having a race team or a pro license I was not allowed to buy it at all. Honestly I don't know what kind of license I needed to have to buy C12 and don't remember the details so im not hating on MSM I was not able as a moto consumer to BUY C12 or and leaded racegas. To hear that from the very same dealership that broke the lead ban law-gate and sold mini's I was pretty suprised.

That and since not as many people are riding 2 strokes as they did 4 years ago it is hard to find good racegas .... the market for moto shrunk and Im sure companiues like VP have scaled down production and raised prices, thus causing parts managers not to order it.

It'sd hard to find for real in SOCAL....unless I am looking in the wrong places all my local dealerships do not carry it either. At 68 bucks a gallon that is ridiculous I remember when it was 45 bucks 5 years ago....sheesh!

Anyone have any input on how to get it at a decent price with availibility?..... I love how much cleaner and crisper my bike runs on that stuff! Recently ran out of a 5 gal of MR2 ....dam good stuff!

Use pump gas and adjust the timing and jetting to curtail the detonation.

I know pump is readily avail and there are ways to curtail the detonation and pinging but there's nothing like the way a 2 stroke runs on leaded racegas.....so clean and crisp.

Hate to semi hijack but anyone have opinions on these three things?

Octane Booster.....does it really work or is it a gimmick

Lead Substitutes....(again) does it really work or is it a gimmick

AvGas.....Is it worth the effort? Is octane booster a better solution?

right on the money. Pump gas will work fine with stock compression

Two strokes that ping on pump gas love 100LL Avgas. It runs $3.75/gal around here. Here's a good avgas price finder. Avgas

It is a common problem with 2000 and up YZ's. My YZ250 bone stock would rattle like a hookers false teeth.

We are lucky here in Charlotte that Cam 2 100 is available at most gas stations at $7 a gallon. I run it 50/50 with high test.

I always mixed mine 50/50 with 110 race fuel from the local gas station and 93 pump gas, if I ran straight pump gas it would start detonated and it was bone stock.

We run 93 Octane in our 2009 YZ's (typically from Shell) at 32:1 mixing with Bel Ray H1R. No pinging, a little drool. Will be switching to 40:1 soon and be compatible with our KTM smokers.

It's becoming very hard to store race fuel here in SoCal, people are even getting tickets for transporting it if you dont have the right placards on your vehicle.....even if you're just a racer that is taking it to the races.

I have always ran my 2 strokes on pump gas even my YZ 250's. Once I put the pipe on it started detonating so I went back to stock. The 2nd 09 I bought came with a pipe and v-force so I just started running straight c12 in both. looks like i'll cut it down to 50/50.

When we ran YZ85's, we ran the stock ones on 93 octane pump fuel, but we ran the modded ones and the superminis (which were higher compression) on C12 mixed 50-50 with the 93 octane unleaded. This was at the recommendation of the engine builders (Rick Peterson for the supermini, Pro Circuit for the modded 85). Never had any problems with the stock or the modded bikes that way.

I'd say unless your bike has raised compression or you cannot buy real non-ethanol 93 octane pump fuel, you don't need special fuel in the stock two stroke.

Wow there really are a lot of know-it-alls on here that in actuality seem to know very little about dirt bikes.

Lots of modern 2 strokes need a bit of an Octane boost to run correctly if they are jetted 'lean and mean' and are ran hard, especially when a track has lots of traction. Pump fuel in the USA is of very low quality. The lead and extra O2 that some of the race fuels bring to the table doesn't hurt either. Also jetting is a lot more consistent because pump fuel, is so unconsistent.

Anyways, C-12 runs fantastic and ran at 50% it generally runs great. Pricey and hard to get around here though. I also got good economy on C-12.

I burn a lot of fuel and need to save money and am VERY happy w/ AVGAS 100LL. I run 3.5g AVGAS w/ 1.5g Super in my 190 compression engine. Price is right, consistency is there, lead is there, and it gives me the compression bump I need. When you get blatantly too much Octane for a specific engine configuration the bike can feel a bit softer. Also AVGAS ran straight can get some poor mpg. Something to do w/ all light-ends or something. Adding a bid of pump fuel corrects that completely in my experience.

Many people claim all kinds of strange reasons why AVGAS doesn't work. I'm hear to tell you they are wrong. In fact many race fuels are nothing but AVGAS100LL w/ Octane boosters and other additives added in.

I ran 1/3race 2/3pump in my heavily modified YZ250 with high compression. Ran just fine.

I used to buy all my race gas at Downs Commercial refueling right outta the pump. It is in Corona. You have to get a Downs account but it is convenient day or night you can just pull up and pump as much as you want. I ran 1 gallon of race to 4 gallons of 93 pump in my 2 strokes. Pipe and v-force with stock piston.
