"The 1983 honor roll of riders who had etched their names in moto history included Jeff Ward (125), Phil Larson (500), Eric Eaton (500), Goat Breker (500), Broc Glover (500), Warren Reid (500), Danny Chandler (500), Billy Liles (250), Bob Hannah (250), Ricky Johnson (250), Mike Bell (250) and Tom Carson (250). Only 12 riders cleared the jump out of the 160 riders entered that day."
Whole story is here: MXA Suicide Mountain
Small world and one hell of a race. RC just refused to lose that day. He got lucky, but he plugged away at James all day.
The Shop
I've personally known josh for years and I was so excited to see him two laps away from the biggest win of his life, then for .5 seconds it was almost thrown away. My heart stopped and I couldn't breathe. When the wheel broke free again I screamed louder then I have ever screamed in my life.
That night in 2009 is something that will never leave my memory
Watching George Holland and Eric Kehoe battle on 125's at Gatorback.
Listening to what sounded like the entire Anaheim crowd boo RC when him and Pastrana tangled. Smh
Watching Don Kudalski do one hand wheelies in practice at Hyatt Cycle park in 1976.
My dad and I were on the outside of the first turn, and this happened right in front of us. We both thought we just witnessed someone either become a paraplegic or die right before our eyes. Will never be able to get the sound of that bike wadding up out of my head.
This! Riding in the San Fernando Valley hills. My brother took this picture as a police helicopter was landing to bust us.
As for pros the epic battle between RJ and Bailey as it unfolded before my eyes.
when Mc went from deadlast to win at anahiem, one of the best performances ive ever seen.
The battle between Mc and doug henry in las vegas before henry tangled with larracco after the whoops 98 or 99 i think.
When casey lytle got landed on over the triple at anahiem and his arm broke...i remember my dad saying (He's done, like two seconds after it happend) still bummed on that.. he was fast
Pit Row
I unloaded and was dorking around trying to break it in and thinking I was something when a couple of A guys showed up on yz465s.
Number 5 and no number. Doug McNiel and Arlo Englund. I learned later of course that Arlo was not just a local A rider.
They were very cool and by the end of the day we had laid out as good a track as that lot would ever see and over the next few weeks I got to know them well.
Both were great riders however Arlo was unbelievable on that big bike. I'll never forget the talent but more than that they were good people.
Most Moto people are.
1998 MXDN, Foxhills Moto Park, Uk
Getting to see RC in Saturday practise (when it was sunny & dry) whip it flat for the crowd, getting to hear that PC Kawasaki kx 125 scream up those hills and smell that two stroke. Also when all was done on that wet Sunday, getting to walk into team USA pits and see RC just chilling, he went into the trailer and came back out with some goggles and a signed poster for my friend (the poster was the one of him in 97, axo gear, whipping it). He still has those goggles (team usa oakley if i remember correctly), caked in mud.
Obviously seeing British rider Rob Herring holeshot moto 1 and hearing the air horns and crowd go wild is an awesome memory too from that weekend.
OH! waking up at around 3am in my tent, literally floating in water......not so good
1989 Unadilla MX National, cold, rainy day in October. Watching Doug Henry as a privateer rip through the pack after a bad start on a whipped YZ125 with fenders and sideplates flapping around and making it to the top five. It was at that moment I realized he was going to accomplish what the rest of us just dreamed about.
