do they still do a Top Privateer award? I remember US Smokless Tobacco was a sponsor of it the last few years but at the few SXs i went to this season i dont remember seeing their set up in the pits. So maybe they are no longer a sponsor? Do they still give out an award and like $25k to the top privateer? Maybe Gibby can shed some light?
I guess it gives fans at least something to cheer for at Vegas SX since all other titles have been decided. I'm not even sure who is considered "privateer" and who isnt? At the beginning of the year a lot of attention was raised about Factory Connection running stock suspension so Windham isn't getting factory stuff like he used to. but maybe his salary still comes from Honda though? Is Tedesco getting help from Yamaha? I thought i heard his bike had all the Yamaha GYTR goodies on it. What about Hahn, is he running an '09 like his 250f teammates? if so i'm sure he's not getting any factory help. Wey's time aboard the Factory Kawi will make him inelligible. My guess would be that Chisolm is leading the race for top Privateer...??

The lines of privateer have blurred over the last few years.
A good story was on the pulpmx show about this on Monday.

The Shop
Wey and Byner basically took themselves out of it when they took subsitute Factory rides.
I'm sure Ivan got some money to race but I was told Vali had to buy any works Yamaha stuff they got.
So like Guy-b said the line between Privateer and Factory is very blurred.
He comes in a big rig, flies to the races, has a salary, gets free parts, gets bonuses and has a mechanic on salary.
That makes me sick if he gets it.
In the east Jimmy Decotis easily won that one.
