What do you guys/girls do with your trophies/old race stuff? I have mine in my closet, walls and such, in my garage wall, my girlfriends room, and gave some to her brothers.

Billy Liles uses his Mx Des Nations cup trophy as a candy bowl at his desk.

Davey coombs gave his Evel knievel lunchbox to his son. Read the Davey coombs "reason for being" article in new Racer X.

mine are taking up way too much room in my shed. sad. to think of all the money and effort it took in getting them, and now they sit.

i've been wanting to pull the meaningful trophies out and toss the rest, but i've been procrastinating that day for about 3 years now Smile

donated most of mine to a few tracks and tossed the rest. I kept just my year end award trophies.

Gave boxes of them to a buddy who was promoting some races back in the day. Kept a couple that were important to me and have a few road racing plaques on the wall in my office.

Plaques, I don't mind taking home, but trophies... I leave at the track, or give to a little kid !

All of them are gone except for a select few.
They make excellent targets for a .22 rifle.

Mine are gathering dust at my parents house. My Mom has asked me three times if I want them and I said yes each time if they can stay there.Laughing

There were a couple of guys in district 3 (Austin brothers) who were winning everything around for awhile. Once when I was talking to one of them, he told me he gave all his trophys to the local special olympics group. They just switch up the motorcycle on top for another sport. You can imagine the look on a kids face when he wins one of these 5 foot hight trophys.

I thought so too. That's why I wanted to give credit to the guys who were doing it.

On the other side of things, when I was a member at Hogback Hills in Palmyra, NY, we would give credit equal in value to anyone who wanted it instead of the trophy. They could use the 'check' for entry fees, food, etc. Was a great way to defer some of the cost of racing for the racer and made life easier for the promoter.

I just threw away about 20 trophies while I was at my parents house for Christmas...saddest part was that most of them had no significance to me at all...

When my parents moved out of their house all that was left was about 400 of my trophies. Called every trophy place in town to see if they would give any thing for them, then called everyone back to see if they wanted them for free. No. Then called a few church groups and kids clubs and you would have thought I gave those people a truck load of cash. Three of the groups even pulled all of the metal plates off of the fronts and sent them to me.

I took all my trophy's and buried them under the take off of this Jump on my track.

We call it the "Trophy Jump"

I can't think of a better place for them

Wins and top 3's never came easy or all the time for me.....so I have tried to keep the ones that did not break.

I have a plaque from Muddy Creek from when I went to school down there that means the world to me.

When I first started out in the Novice Class at 15, I had no idea I would ever get to race in Tenn. Let alone do well enough to get an award. (Its a third place out of 30 or so in Cool and it rained so hard that weekend. Otherwise I never would have been up that high.

Just like the memories from them I guess.

Wooden Bears from Mammoth, Squirrel Award from Baja, "Full-Pull" from the Rip to the Tip and other important trophies are in a Dragon Goggles display-case in my office.

The rest...?

In boxes in my garage. DOH!

I have my Evel Knievel lunchbox on a special shelf next to my first helmet and first pair of mx boots. I also have my first jersey framed along with some signed pro's jerseys. Another shelf holds 6 of my favorite helmets(mx and roadracing) from years past. I also have three of my custom roadracing leathers from my Japanese racing days under a large picture from the Suzuka 8 hour. Also, have some very special trophies and pictures scattered around the garage, too. Additionally, I have some pictures and magazine articles framed from my drag racing exploits that I am really proud of.

About 18 years ago, my dad and I took almost 500 trophies to the dump before moving into a new house. I felt like part of me was missing for several months after that.

I have given many, many of them to charities like Special Olympics and Boy Club's but still have several hundred (mine and my sons') displayed or stashed around the house, office and garage. My trophy collection goes back to 1972 and the older they are, the more they mean to me. I could never give those away. The newer ones could be gone tomorrow if I knew where to send them. I will not simply throw them away for some reason, though.
