step one: instead of showing the sport to the general public TV (possible enthusiasts), force people to get an app(not something that little johnny's mom is willing to do).

I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but little Johnny can see a lot of dirtbike action on the internet for free. Mav TV and NBCSN aren’t free either. You make it sound like the races aren’t still on TV like they always have been.

step 2, make everyone sell their (affordable) 2 strokes in favor of the more environmentally friendly 4 strokes, only to tell them that they are too noisy and bad. Must buy e-bikes.

I'm not a old man by any means but yeah haven't watched any nationals since its been on the app. I find it absolutely ridiculous that we cant get air time to watch the nationals on tv for both motos. Ill tell you what i do watch alot of SX and MXGP. I also don't agree with the nationals on Saturday. Its hard for me to get time of to go to red bud on Saturday running my own company. Work over pleasure. But I can tell you if they were on Sunday still myself as well as probably 10-15 other people I know would hit 3-4 rounds a year like we use to. Plus at least 10-12 of us would have a +1 or 2.
Honestly there is no good reason we can't get air time.

Make tracks so dangerous that guys are getting carted off left and right, raising insurance costs (and scaring away little johnny's mom ).

What is your cable bill, old man? I pay $14 for Netflix, whatever for Amazon, and then the nbc sorts app. I get to watch wherever I went and don't have to pay $125 per month for 85 channels that I don't watch and four that I actually watch.

Some of you have never checked TV guides in Walmart, then went home and set a vcr to record at 2am the Tuesday after the race, only to rewind it the next day and there be some rerun of a fucking dog show instead. Or waited till a month later to read about it in the next magazine. Live app, live tv, either way is cool with me!! Bitch all you want I actually prefer the app.

Same here. I pay for Netflix, Hulu, Goldapp for MX/SX, and PS Vue. I save over $100 a month compared to cable or satellite. Everything is on demand, mostly commercial free.

almost every race is aired on TV so what is your point exactly? also you know that SX is on the same channel as most of the 2nd moto's.

Okay fine, but there should be three races (minimum) on public access tv.
Look at it this way, if you were going to grow the sport like politicians run for office, you'd be loosing right now.

Yep its a conspiracy by DC to kill the sport.... the networks would make BOAT LOADS of cash broadcasting a tiny niche sport for 4 hours on a Saturday but they dont want to, they want the sport to die. Yep, thats it.

Actually you bring up a good point. I think there should be a round table of key people (including some old guys), annually to discuss the current and future health of our sport.

When I was little Johnny back in 1977 the only race that was ever on TV was the Carlsbad USGP, normally on Wide World of Sports, sometime in October. Didn't hurt the growth back then.

what the fuck are you talking about when you say grow the sport. I don't get it. you want to grow the sport take a group of young kids and teach them how to ride. Growing the sport is not the responsibility of pro racing.

even the most popular sports in the US aren't all available on public TV. Monday night football is on ESPN for fucks sake. I don't know a single person who uses rabbit ears for TV today. Literally everyone has a streaming service. People don't even know what an antenna is anymore.

What was it that made mx explode in the 70s?
It was an affordable and easily accessible sport.

I hate to say it, but I miss those days. The excitement waiting for the recording, Moto mags coming in the mail with the inside scoop. Actual mail, not email. Working without interruption from some asshole asking asshole questions on my asshole phone that's giving me cancer from 5g radiation.. I gotta go breathe into a bag now.

I have an antenna holmes. Not joking. Beat that. My bill each month, zero. And I get to see Carson reruns which are better than the lot of late night hipster douches on today. He had a monkey on tonight that could roller skate, tie it's own shoe laces, and light smokes. Bitchin.

it was a brand new radical sport few had envisioned before. and the progress on bikes was moving at exponential rates, going from converted street bikes to full on MX bikes in only a few years. same thing that made freeskiing and snowboarding explode (relatively speaking) in the 90's for snowboarding and early 2000's for freeskiing, now that neither are the new thing they aren't growing as fast and snowboarding is actually shrinking. The only growing segment of both those sports is backcountry riding. MX wasn't ever accessible or affordable because pro racing was shown on public TV. And it def wasn't aired on TV in the 70's. So what the fuck are you talking about.?

No good reason we cant get airtime? Why dont you tell the TV execs that, and they'll counter with facts and figures.

Its the same old story, people refuse to get up off their ass and do something when its not 100% convenient for them, then they complain. People refuse to buy the app but then complain every race isn't on live TV. Switch it around, if 10 million people bought the app and tuned in every week do you think theTV execs might say, hey this sport is pulling in pretty good numbers considering, why dont we throw it on the regular channel and see how it goes?

I can half understand the complaints about a saturday program instead of a sunday, but i think that was just a scheduling decision to try and keep the stakeholders involved and limit the pressure that a travelling 2 day event each week brings.

A fair question.
I see a lot of old vets, and that's nice but we need to build the sport.
Why are you so freaking pissy?
