video of the beginning of the Suzuki motocross dynasty in 1970

Edited Date/Time 12/13/2018 7:59am

This promotional film produced by Suzuki about their 1970 Grand Prix motocross season was acquired by Director Todd Huffman and Pipeline Digital Media (PDM) from ISDT legend and AMA Hall of Famer Billy Uhl and his father Herb Uhl in it's original 16mm format. They had it because they were Suzuki dealers in Boise, Idaho. There are some versions of it in existence online or in dvd format but nothing in this quality or full length. PDM had it transferred to a high-definition format and have made it available for all to enjoy.

Please check out the beginning of the Suzuki motocross dynasty in 1970 with stars Joel Robert, Sylvain Geboers and Olle Pettersson.

Thanks for posting that, watched it a few times and forgot about it! Very cool how different racing looked back then, and those Suzukis were a big part of the transition to modern motocross more like we've known it since...

Thanks. That was cool to see. I used to buy stuff from the Uhl's in the early 70's. They had a good, well stocked shop. On west State St, if I remember right. Neat to hear their names again.

I dunno....looking at those old Suzukis....

I can't believe they don't have electric start and hydraulic clutch.
They look like they are way too heavy and need to lose 18 lbs.
The rear shocks...probably should switch those out for a WP/KYB hybrid.
Looks like the clutches are no good.
My friends cousins sisters brother in law has one and said it's unreliable.
The resale value on them just doesn't look like it would be any good.

There is just no way they will make it, probably out of business soon!

Over $30 billion in sales this year alone. I don't think they'll be going out of business anytime soon. Getting out of the dirt bike market? Possibly. Out of business? No.

Some of those 16mm cameras back then shot film with remarkable clarity. Awesome clip. Loved it. Thanks!
