I hear you! Love Cali but it's turning to shit here. What bothers me the most is all the illegal Mexicans! I'm all for coming to this country for a better living, but damn! Just spent a week in North Dakota visiting my brother. Really nice state but cold as hell in the winter. Sorry just had to vent when I seen your thread.

Been wondering this too. I recently moved to Vegas for school, but mainly a lot of desert riding out here. I was in the same boat as you. California just isn't for college students in their 20's trying to live in their own and the things you mentioned were push factors for me as well.

Oregon is pretty good. Tracks everywhere, and quite a few private tracks once you know a few people. Plus if you're in the Portland metro area, you're not far from the Washington tracks. There is racing year round up here.

Grew up in So.Calif!

Moved to Houston Tx in 1995.

Still riding moto at 60 years old.

We have 6 tracks all within a hour drive of Downtown Houston!

Depending on the type of work you do, you should be able to fing a good job really quick .

Just need to get used to the humidity.

Check out riobravomx.com, freedom MX.com & 3 plams.

Also check out Houstonmotocross.com for more local info.

I'd look around the DFW area, northern Florida, Georgia or South Carolina. SC has low cost of living lots of track and training facilities, moto and off-road racing (3-4 GNCC races within two hours) and there is plenty of jobs in Greenville.

Love AZ! Pretty decent MX tracks but some phenomenal desert riding. Weather is great 9 months out of the year, 6 hours from the ocean, but you still get mountains, low cost of living, low taxes, oh ya - it's in America (unlike CA)!

Yup!

Got a KTM 450 Factory Edition, if that doesn't work I can pull out the Maico 490 or the KTM 525!

Colorado is nice. 300 days of sunshine is the norm. MX scene probably isn't as big as Cali but there are several tracks on the front range between Fort Collins and Pueblo along I25 corridor plus others scattered through the mountains. Trail riding is huge in CO. Lots of trails and some wicked sick single track if you know where to go. Moab, UT is close and has lots of trail options as well.

On the front range the MX tracks are open year round. Even if the snow dumps its only a matter of days till the tracks reopen. Trail riding in the mountains is pretty much early spring through late fall. Snow shuts everything down in the mountains through winter time. Western edge of CO and Moab is most always dry and sunny though.

I would recommend you roll out to CO except with so many people already on their way...

From the Portland area there is PIR, Washougal, Woodland, Mountain View, Albany, Clark County(indoor), and Riverdale. PIR is right in the city, and has racing every Thursday night during spring and summer. Pretty cool to race under lights on a week day 15min from home and work. Woodland has a winter series, so you can literally race all year.
If you extend your drive time to the 2-3 hour range the number of tracks double.

Portland is great for moto. Tracks within 30min-1 hour. Endless trails by the coast and in Hood River.

The only downfall is riding in the winter is tough because of weather. That might be a tough transition from Cali life.

Lived in Ohio for two years, with the company I work for. That's where I met my wife. Other than that I would not move back. Also worked in buffalo NY and that's the armpit of America!

Mountain View and Washougal are my favorites. Both within an hour from Portland.
I hit Thursday night Moto a few times during the season at PIR too. Mountain View also does Tuesday night practices, so I usually hit a few of those after work.

O'Mara in the avatar! must be legit. Oregon and Texas are looking good. btw I'm 47 this may, so that's ok if I don't have access to any local sx tracks.

I lived in La Cresenta CA for a few years, and when I moved back to Portland, I was making about the same, however, cost of living was considerably less in Oregon. That was 10 years ago. The cost of living has gone up around here, but it's still no where near So. Cal. cost of living.
