Considering adding a 4t to the garage to sit next to the yz250 2t. Not anxious to make the same mistake as i did with the 14 crf450. (450f or even 250f), if resistance to flame out was your primary requirement in a new bike purchase, which would you consider first? Thanks folks!

From what I have been reading about the Rekluse clutch 3.0 system, it pretty much does not matter now-a-days!.

Might make buying a 4t easier for you if you factor this in the deal?. Rekluse thread Here

I'm pretty sure Honda figured it out and I haven't heard of any others that have the same problem they did. I currently ride a 16 KX 450 and came off an 11 RMZ450. Neither bike ever flamed out.

Maybe you did this last time, but have the fuel map adjusted for your exhaust and fuel type.

I've got a 16 450R. It is better than first years of FI Hondas but the problem is not completely gone yet. IMHO the Honda PGM-FI is no where near as good as the Yamaha or Kawi. Why they can't get it right bugs the shit out of me but I am a small fish in a big pond when it comes to Honda. I'm just hoping the 17 is what I want in a bike. We shall see later this year I guess.

Not true in every case. My buddy had a 10 and 11 Honda, both had Rekluse Core EXPs and both still flamed out. The problem was not as bad as before but it wasn't by any means cured by the Rekluse.

That being said, I highly recommend the Rekluse. Next to setting up my suspension, it's the first thing I do to every bike I buy. And as good as the product is, the after sale support is even better.

Can someone explain what "flame out" is? I just took it to mean detonation, but it sounds more like a problem with the transmission rather than the engine.

Rekluse has absolutely nothing to do with flame out. It's an issue with the fuel injection not the clutch. If anything, the rekluse might make flame out worse since the bike freewheels when you let off the gas. You lose the engine braking where the back wheel keeps the engine turning over.

^^^^^

Find a four stroke with a carb or a 300cc two stroke.

Seems like a year or two ago, ktm owners were all talking about their own methods to get their tps sensor values set correctly, but I haven't seen anything recent on that, maybe its been corrected in the 16's +?

Haven't had that problem, tho...I -do- let my bike idle for a minute or two WITHOUT touching the throttle...

The reason for "why" to do this is in the owners manual...well...it was when I read one in '14...

My KTM 350 never flamed out once I set the tps a bit rich.

My 15 and 16 sxf 450's both came with tps set at .54v and would flame out occasionally. Set them both to .6v and never had it happen again
