I am picking up a new kx450 this week and have been asking friends and shops how they break in their new 4 strokes and have been getting conflicting answers so I thought id ask you guys. Whats the proper way to break in a modern 4 stroke engine? This is my first new 4 stroke bike and I want to make sure I do things the right way.
The procedure is in the owner's manual.

Wait, change out the fork and shock oil after break in? Gonna guess about 2% of riders actually ever do that (not counting dedicated suspension re-vavles).

Your bike has already been broken in by the shop prior to picking it up. They fill it with fuel, start amd let idle for a 20 seconds or so, then ride it ensuring all gears shift.

I'm also a big proponent of starting it, riding the piss out if it for 15 minutes like it killed my dog then changing the oil/filter.

I think break-in has changed a lot as machining has gotten better. When I have a new bike I go straight to the track and ride, I’ve never worried about break in.
Break in procedures are more prevalent flat tappet camshafts, and cast iron cylinders... but what eases your mind is probably most important, bikes aren’t cheap 👍
