20 minutes if not in top 20
Then pull rider off the track
Or keep making it part of the race and deal with it!!
maybe once you start turning consistent laps 20-30 seconds off the lead pace you should be pulled off? it's a slippery slope, those guys paid their entry and earned a spot in qualifying, so it's hard to say they have to pull off. but watching the lappers problem this weekend was really bad.
Pit Row
Rather then breaking things down by cc class I think it would be great to break things down by skill level.
The 450 class is dying for talent right now. This is one of the weakest fields I can recall. The drop off after about 5th place is insane.
You could keep scoring the same. Top 450 and top 250 rider get their normal class points.
I was recently looking at lap times for the Hangtown race. Just going by average lap times the top four would have been Tomac, Osbourne, Plessenger, Marvin. Two of the top 3 were 250 riders. That's crazy and points to the fact it would be awesome to combine top 20 from each class.
But the emotion of when the leaders fight and the lappers arrive will be lost
That said here’s my end all be all solution:
One morning all the millions of NASCAR fans wake up one more and collectively have an epiphany and realize what everyone on this board already knows: MX racing is far superior and more exciting compared to watching cars go in circles. Once they realize this the TV rating will sky rocket which in turn will pump 10’s of millions of additional revenue into the sport. Consequently, instead of racing for $100k purse they’ll be racing for $10M purse which will guarantee the AMA has an absolute monopoly on talent much the same as the NBA enjoys. As a result you will have 40+ full fledged factory teams for both 250 & 450 classes all. Instead of having the best talent scattered across MX 250/450 and MXGP 250/450 you’d have the 40 best riders in the world at the gate for the 450 race and 41-80 for the 250 class all enjpyimg full fledged factory support with virtually unlimited resources.
Can you imagine the quality of racing we’d see when first place = $1M purse every weekend? You wouldn’t need to worry about black flagging lappers or any other such suggestions because all 40 riders would be on the lead lap!
A guy can dream, right? Anyone want to take a crack at their dream 40 man gate for an MX National?
