no.... the solution for many here is something like a 15-30 rider gate, because every one of those guys will challenge for th win.

If the sport was bigger and more people could get paid with bigger/more teams you wouldnt have sooo many riders who just walk away when they cant land on one of the few big teams anymore. Look how stacked the 250 class is but most of those guys wont get a 450 ride and will have to quit in a few years. Hell Jmart has 2 mx championships and is still farting around in the 250 class. The 450 class should have a lot of those 250 guys and then there should be new guys like cooper, smith, forkner, marchbanks type riders in the 250 class. Instead theres hardly any 450 contracts so you have jmart with 2 championships, zacho with 1mx 2sx championships whos pushin 30, alex martin whos pushin 30, davalos whos over 30.

10 minutes in if not in top 30
20 minutes if not in top 20
Then pull rider off the track

Or keep making it part of the race and deal with it!!

I’ve got a ton of respect for anyone that makes the gate at a National. However, that respect goes out the window when they stack up in the main lines side by side like two truckers drag racing up the side of a mountain and the leaders are coming through. There were a lot of ignorant lappers this week to say the least.

10-30 place would probably not get lapped, if they had top ride. Top 10 don't touch bike, have 5 of them, with top motors. Rest have 1-2 bikes, have to drive, and bikes are comparatively slow. No time to train, no money left to eat right.

In the grandprix races ive done years ago some of the pros would have an airhorn ziptied to the front of their chest protectors and hit the button up on you in you're in the way, seemed to work alright haha

Hire a person to watch the end of the field, and start black flagging anyone who is likely to get lapped. They got their glory of starting a national. They've gone hard for 15-30 minutes, and got to have fun racing against others. Now get them out of the way of the actual elite race that's going on.

Lapper lane- off to the side of the track, just inside the UTV lane.

Cut the main field down to 20 riders, then have the other 20 that qualified race a "B" final like they do at mxon. Then you have the top guys battling without lappers, and B final guys can fight for wins and get some good sponsor recognition.

i don't know the answer, but some of those guys were like 40+ seconds slower per lap. that's a recipe for disaster.

maybe once you start turning consistent laps 20-30 seconds off the lead pace you should be pulled off? it's a slippery slope, those guys paid their entry and earned a spot in qualifying, so it's hard to say they have to pull off. but watching the lappers problem this weekend was really bad.

I wish they would take top 20 from 250 and top 20 from 450 and combine them into a single race. Then take the 20-41 place riders from each class and combine them.

Rather then breaking things down by cc class I think it would be great to break things down by skill level.

The 450 class is dying for talent right now. This is one of the weakest fields I can recall. The drop off after about 5th place is insane.

You could keep scoring the same. Top 450 and top 250 rider get their normal class points.

I was recently looking at lap times for the Hangtown race. Just going by average lap times the top four would have been Tomac, Osbourne, Plessenger, Marvin. Two of the top 3 were 250 riders. That's crazy and points to the fact it would be awesome to combine top 20 from each class.

It's part of it. Race at your own pace and be smarter than slower riders. When I'm doing local stuff and they mix A and B I don't flip the fuck out when I lap B riders. It's part of it.

It could be if when the leader of the race is in the same lap as a lapper, the lapper must be eliminated when passing through the finish line.
But the emotion of when the leaders fight and the lappers arrive will be lost

First off I’d like to qualify my statement by saying i personally don’t view lappers as a problem given everyone who wants to win has to deal with them. I actually think if anything they add a bit of additional intrigue to the race.

That said here’s my end all be all solution:

One morning all the millions of NASCAR fans wake up one more and collectively have an epiphany and realize what everyone on this board already knows: MX racing is far superior and more exciting compared to watching cars go in circles. Once they realize this the TV rating will sky rocket which in turn will pump 10’s of millions of additional revenue into the sport. Consequently, instead of racing for $100k purse they’ll be racing for $10M purse which will guarantee the AMA has an absolute monopoly on talent much the same as the NBA enjoys. As a result you will have 40+ full fledged factory teams for both 250 & 450 classes all. Instead of having the best talent scattered across MX 250/450 and MXGP 250/450 you’d have the 40 best riders in the world at the gate for the 450 race and 41-80 for the 250 class all enjpyimg full fledged factory support with virtually unlimited resources.

Can you imagine the quality of racing we’d see when first place = $1M purse every weekend? You wouldn’t need to worry about black flagging lappers or any other such suggestions because all 40 riders would be on the lead lap!

A guy can dream, right? Anyone want to take a crack at their dream 40 man gate for an MX National?

What is the problem with lappers? All part of the game
Exactly. Every other form of racing you deal with lappers, they dont move over, you find a way around or deal with it.

Just shoot them... The NRA will love it and become a big sponsor of our sport and it creates new space for new talent. Special marshals for shooting lappers can you imagine WoohooTongueEvil
