I currently have a 2000 RM250. When I bought it all I thought it needed was a new clutch and a back axle, as per the seller. Well I have put those in, as well as a few other things that I ran across when I was piecing it together. It got to the point that it was out of my hands what the problem might be so I took it to someone. They informed me that pretty much the whole engine is shot.
Other than spending alot (7-800 on top of what I already put into it) for aother engine on e-bay I can get one locally from a 2001 RM250. I wanted to check with you fine people to see if this could be swapped out or if I will have to stick with the original engine?
I'm not mechanically inclined so if there is some welding, forging or anything like that that needs to be done I will have to pass.

Is this something that can be switched, putting a 2001 250 engine into a 2000 250?????

Short answer, You will need to do a bit of welding. It wont just slot in as the frame was changed on the K1.

1996 to 2000 should bolt in.
I think the 2000 motor was better than the '01

Put a 2001 CR 250 motor in it. From what I've been reading they are like 100 HP on race gas and 88 HP on pump gas.LaughingLaughingTongueTongueBlinkBlinkBlink

My 05 with just a pipe runs way better than my old highly modified 2001.
The 2001 will run a lot better with a KX500 in it.
Damb near bolts right in.

Had to move the bottom motor mounts about 1/4 inch and drill the cases for a larger swingarm bolt.
A few spacers, new head stay plates, and spacers for the radiator mounts. Hardest part to build today would be locating a Service Honda KX500AF pipe.
Build is on Kxriders.com. I haven't updated the build thread in a while. Changed and found some easier /better ways of doing a couple things.
