MXer out of these types of riders?

The Lechien post got me thinking..

you got guys that take it to the nth degree in terms of nutrition/practice/mental approach such as the current motogod/s RV AND RD and former motogod/s JBS and RC etc.etc..

All champions no doubt. then we got former "unbelievables" like Ron Lechien, Danny MAGOO Chandler, Marty Tripes (these last two maybe the fastest ever), Joel Robert (burning lucky strikes between motos etc.). They didn't take it that too serious, they didn't live, eat and breathe scooters (cept maybe magoo).

Since my opinion matters the most around here I would say the latter. no trainers no nutritionists etc...just plain balls and fucking talent. Can you imagine being that out of shape in anyones eyes and yet riding MX like these guys did? How can you argue that? How can you argue the riders today are even faster than yesterday? You can't...and the people that were there and saw all these ERA's would argue your point endlessly.

Nick Wey # 27 is my current badass MXer.
talent and training only get you so far, wit and humour like nyk's is what makes a legend, when RV was down hurt and his factory ride was open and Nick explained how his Factory Mandingo Pickle ride might not release him to Kawasaki.

Not a favorite of mine but he takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Sears Point?

My best memories of a Bad Ass are when Danny would fly to the bottom of the hill at Saddleback coming outta the 1st turn. Or kicking the World's Ass at the Moto & Trophy des Nations...or...of all things & all places...this one makes me laugh...him on his CR-pseudo-RC500 at Lake Madera.

Damn.

I miss him.

At least I've got Barcia giving me hope that that kinda rider is still out there.

Great Thread.

Thanks.

Hakan Carlqvist.

From across the ocean off a motorcycle magazine page back in the day, that guy scared the shit out of me! He could grab most of today's MX racers and throw them 5 rows deep.

He had a brewsky at his final pro moto.

I grew up watching the same guys at Hyatt Cycle Park, Hollywood Speedway etc...

Don Kudalski was a bad dude, Jimmy King also until he got injured.

Magoo, hands down - only wish I could have seen him riding in person. I guess seeing him at Budds in 2007 will have to do.

There's a special place in my closet for his jersey.

Damn - I should check out getting that thing mounted & displayed proper like....

Yes, and posting a picture of it Smile

I have a huge collection of jerseys and a lot are older ones which are my favorites, but never could find a Magoo.

Feets Minert has done and won most anything you can think of and still races! Gary Jones is just a younger version of Feets.

I should qualify a bit - it's not from back in the day. It came from his website a couple years before he passed away.

Even still at that, it has some meaning to me.

The original RD was pretty bad ass on a bike, killed everyone in his last 500GP at age 36 I believe, and walked away. Raced the best at the time on both sides of the pond for many years. The fuckin man, stamp it.

The gnarliest dude I've ever seen on a bike with my own two eyes is James Stewart. I've seen Bob Hannah and RJ ride back in the 80's, Stanton, JMB, Bradshaw, MC, and Emig in the 90's. RC and Windham 2000's. Emig and RJ are my favorite riders of all time, but when it comes to making your jaw drop in amazement, no one comes close to Bubba. I don't think that you can argue the fact that RC is the most hardcore MX'er of all time. His wins speak for themselves, but Stewart had the ability to make you slap your buddy standing next to you and say "holy shit, did you just see that?l"
6/14/2013 9:29pm
So it's between people with talent that train hard and people with talent that don't?

If RC hadn't been a notorious hard worker then he still would have been waxing dudes for years right?

That's right, he did it both ways during his career. RC wins, again.

Yeah this dude,Carla was hard as nails and from back in the days of gnarly Moto,he was hands on with his bikes too.No knee-braces,limited protection early on and 500 2 strokes with all their trails, and their roost too

I wonder how it was back then, trekking the globe in vans instead off big motorhomes Europe and beyond wasn't the place it is now, every country had a border,a diferrent currency and not many spoke English as a common language like now.Border guards could make you wait for hours, have everything out of the van for a search and still take a bribe, some stories back then I'm sure!

Rick Ryan, this guy stayed around long after his prime and put a whooping on every next big thing in California for years winning all the golden states and gfi winter series races.....cleaning up. Even had a little beer belly and would just ruin dudes half his age. .......bad ass.
