Racer x films, did a project on it, compared to the newer bikes.

I owned both 2008 and 2009 and I wish I still owned them. A little heavy and the stock pipe had a cork in it but the 5 valve engine could be tuned up easily and turned into a fire breather.

The suspension was top notch and IMO they can run with todays bikes at a local track no problem.

It was one of my favorite 450's that I've owned (2009). I always thought it was an awesome looking bike too! As for suspension, the SSS suspension was great, especially w/ that frame. It never felt ridged or stiff. I had mine reworked for my weight & for off-road, but worked very well. Cornering was fine, it was never bad IMO. I ended up installing the DR. D radiator lowering kit & it actually helped the bike to settle nicely in the corners. The power was smooth & that's one of the reasons I got it. It was a good off-road platform. I put a 2006 CDI on it & it helped the power come on harder & rev longer all through out the power band. You'll defiantly want to add an exhaust (at least a muffler). I had the FMF mega bomb & 4.1 one on it at first & damn that made that bike rip!!! I ended up buying & installing a DR. D exhaust because I wanted to try the Dr.D rad lowering kit. It took away to mush low end, but made the mid-top pull really hard & long. That would've been a great set-up for the desert, but not so much in the North Georgia Mountains.

was the 5valve engine reliable ? the 250 5v valve seems to have a lot of problems with broken valves.

Love the styling on them! Still looks better than a new YZ450 2017, and way better than the turd they had in 2010-2013.

ok sounds promising, yep i really like the look of the bike also, should look really good with a fmf header and a mod a muffler from a newer bike.

yea one of the best looking bike i would say, but it had always a very long muffler that made them look a bit wierd. should look so much better whit a muffler from a newer bike.

I have both a 09 and a 11 yz450. I am a decent vet rider. I feel like my 09 has a more aggressive motor. The 11 is smoother through the power band. The 09 definetly turns and tracks better through turns. A minor thing and it's probably just age but my 09 front brake is complete trash compared to my 11. It could be the same brake on both but my 09 is so soft. At my skill level neither bike is going to really impact my riding to drastic from one to the other. I stayed on my 09 for a whole year before I switched over to the 11. I was just used to my 09 handling but onces I got used to the 11 I liked how the motor felt better and just deal with the worse turning.

I just saw you asked about reliability and from my experience it was bulletproof. I raced and practiced every week for 3 years straight with no problems other then changing the oil. I didn't have a hr meter but I am sure I put well over 100 hrs and it still starts right up

For the time I seem to remember the 250 5v head being the most reliable in its class. It wasn't as fast as the other manufacturers who had gone EFI by this point but it was the most reliable hassle free platform.

Great bike!

Great suspension...very "planted" feeling and predictable.

Bullet proof motor...I raced an entire Sprint enduro with no coolant (due only to rider error...I forgot to put it in). Yes, I cooked the motor, but I finished.

they where amazing! I had a 08, 09, put an exhaust on it and the bike was perfect. I holeshot so many races those yrs in 25 A, 30 A class. and like others said the suspension was top notch, imo the bike would be plenty competive today

Had a 2008 for several seasons and it was a fantastic bike. Reliable as can be and performed on par with the newer bikes. Pipe/little carb work and that bike will rip.

Do you mean felt heavy? It's claimed dry weight was 220. My favorite bike ever. Have switched bikes 3 times and keep coming back to that model.

My 06 2nd piston with a little more than 200 hours, valves needed adjusting only once so far stock motor, muffer change one time, the bike is very good, Only is better have a larger front brake disc, 06 to 09 is the same bike I think, only change the front brake in the 09, always oil Motul 300V and air filter original much better than others

2009 I put a lot of hours on this one and the only $ spent was for oil/chains and tires. The old yz engine is bullet proof.
Easy to ride/set up/durable and stable at speed, corners great and plenty fast, it is a 450 after all. The weight is an issue, I'd say closer to 240 wet than 220. The guy I sold it to has put a lot of hours on it and still has not had a problem with it. Love that engine.

They are great bikes.
