I didn't vote but I sure feel your pain. I know for a fact that video games improve hand to SCREEN coordination but whether that translates to actual physical coordination, I have my doubts. I do know for a fact that it contributes to less chores getting done or done right. No matter what...it's a good excuse to yell, scream, threaten until the wife puts the kibosh on your fun.

I’ve watched VR porn before. And let’s just say... I welcome the future.

nah, they dont.

not sure where that rumor comes from, but none of my heavy video-game playing friends are any good at anything physical besides being nerds

Video games are useless. I've probably played the original mx vs ATV game for a total of 5hrs in my life(I'm 33), which was years ago & other than that I've never played another video game. Probably never watched more than 100hrs of TV in my life total before 18. We had to gtfo of the house & ride & play. No choice, I liked it then & didn't care but FFS am I thankful as could ever be that I wasn't allowed. That shit is useless & real life activities & knowledge is priceless. When I see these worthless kids these days that's all they know how or want to do. I can't even find other people to work(carpentry) cause they won't do physical work. And if they will, they're useless or don't show up half the time. Ok, rant over?

Nail head, meet Mr. Hammer. 100% spot on. If it was true, you could play moto games and be super fast. Or hockey or whatever. The kid plays this crap game called fortnight, just a shoot em up type of game. He just challenged me to shooting contest, 308 scar with open sites. Time to teach a lesson. I can't believe he believes it's actually going to help. If I win no video games for a month, if he wins he gets unlimited video games for a month.

FORTNITE is awesome. It really sux though when that stupid Justin Bieber looking skin kills you though. Makes it suck. And if he is wearing the Unicorn back floaty DAMN!!!!!!!!!

As far as helping vision is concerned my son is in vision therapy and he has 2 therapists. One is a mid 20 something and the other is a 60 year old lady and they both agree it helps with his vision training. But in small doses of course. Kids will play until they drop so all things in moderation.

It's no secret why they seek out and recruit good gamers of certain genres. Dunno why you got a thumbs down for being correct haha. Hell, even the U.S. Army made/published their own public video game and uses it to train with.

Anyway, video games absolutely can help improve hand eye coordination.

Then how do you explain the article l read the other day about professional "Grand Turismo" players transitioning into actual auto racing?

Or the military using video game like situations to train people?

What do y'all think a drone is but a live video game? Filming from a drone is a video game.

Reaction time? Yes. Coordination? No.

7/18/2018 4:23 AM

Some narrow minded people here today , try opening a 100,000 pound die on a self centering overhead crane with 2 hoist . Now add to the equation the die isn't balanced properly and you have to float North or south while operating both hoists. I'd say coordination might come into play.

Geez, let the kid play some games. It won't kill him. Why force him into things he doesn't actually enjoy...
If he plays too much, set a certain amount of time (possible on any console) or a time of the day where he can play. Maybe let him do homework or whatever before he is allowed.
Video games (depending on which one you play) do improve problem solving and strategic thinking, which is both obvious and scientifically proven.

Just looking at the way you phrased everything, you just came on here to find supporters of your arguments because there were none on google. So it doesn't really matter anyway what we write as you probably don't care. I feel a little bad for your kid. Being old isn't bad, being selfish and stubborn is. There's always a compromise

|

7/18/2018 4:39 AM

It helps if youre at a high level of video games. Like playing professional tournaments in counter strike or rainbow six. If youre a casual call of duty or fortnite player youre just wasting your time and using the coordination as an excuse tbh.

You gotta let him play some mxgp pro bro, learn how to really spot them creative lines ??‍♂️

7/18/2018 6:08 AM

I honestly think Video game MX/SX gives the kid an edge in the "just send it " thought process. Not a bad thing to have more confidence on the track.. The kid may not always be successful, but at least he/she gave that triple shot.

The military actually makes them master a military game these days in some areas. It was proven that people who mastered these games will be more calm under similar live situations than someone who has not. As far as coordination at combat no but mentally yes it can help.

|

I don't have to be as smart as you hope to be some day anymore. wink

That's very interesting but it doesn't surprise me..

I was able to finish a flight course lesson without being overwhelmed at my first introduction to a real plane due to my times playing flight sims lol. Literally the only difference was the feeling of turbulence. It was awesome to see how similar and familiar everything was even though id never seen it before then.

Other than that, video games are far better for you than watching Honey boo boo. At least games stimulate your brain and prevent it from relaxing. It's also culture of gaming to be exposed to all kinds of real world current events by it's nature of being online all the time.

It won't make you physically good at sports though, no. Just brain exercises.

Your kid isn't going to know what hit him once you show him the concrete results from..... a vitalmx.com Moto-related forum poll

Here's to feeling good all the time

7/18/2018 7:21 AM

They help reaction times and reflexes, not hand-eye coordination. The motor movement required to play is too minor to really help. But young kids usually have really good reflexes anyway, so it's really just a waste of time as far as improving any sort of performance in the real world.

Relax Sigmund, I do let him play about an hour a day if he does his chores and he can earn way more time through good grades etc. But he's at the point it's all he wants to do, and the kud can ride, he's not slow- I'd much rather have him outside experiencing the world. He even uses the cash he earns to buy stuff in the game, don't tell me that's not a waste! I'm old but I'm not that old. Yet. I do want the kids to be happy, but it's unhealthy IMO to play more than an hour or two a day with those damn earphones yelling at the TV.....
