Contrast that to Shultz, who won the 500 title and just disappeared like DB Cooper.
Shultz beat his body to a pulp, no bueno. He did do some SX in Europe 1985.
Still around, just another working stiff !
He had options he chose not to take them.
Big difference.
And he's back riding at the Kawi test track
Don't know if I would call that disappearing
Pit Row
Actually not to derail the thread but this is the article im talking about lol
Ezra Lusk interview
Yogi ghosted himself too:
Personally, I think that James was a gift to the sport. He took risks that he had no business taking, and we all got to see it happen. Of course, when the margins of success are as slim as James was willing to accept, he came up short on a frequent basis.
And some of this group just loved to pile on him for it. IMO, that was a shame.
I would have no issues what so ever if James simply walked off into the sunset. I got to see him push the limits (several times in person), and I still get goose bumps when I think of the things that he did.
At a Salt Lake City race (the one where Chisholm and Reed ended up in the same line), James was walking into the stadium for the pre-practice walk through, and he walked about 10 feet away from me. I was looking him right in the eye, and he looked up at me with a "mean mug". WTF? I started smiling, and gave him a "thumbs up", and he gave me that patented James grin back, from ear to ear. It was pretty cool.
Made a non clickbait title?
