Jim Neese was a fast starter as always and then dropped back a bit both nights. His team members McDade and Thomas both rode well and made some mains.
Sellards missed the cut by one spot Saturday night, but not for lack of trying. He rode great on Friday night, taking second behind Keith Johnson.
Kelly Smith, Chad Johnson, and Leighton Lillie of the Monster Babbitt's Kawasaki team had a rough opening weekend. Lillie missed the main event both nights. Smith was in the LCQ Saturday night, but made it in with the last transfer spot ahead of Sellards. Chad Johnson seemed to be a bit off, but picked up the pace on Saturday, to finish third. Denny Bartz and Junior Jackson will no doubt regroup and come out on the attack in Baltimore.
Josh Demuth missed the main Saturday night after crashing in the heat and injuring himself. He lined up for the LCQ but got taken down again in some usual AX LCQ carnage. He was walking very gingerly later on in the evening. Looked like maybe he injured his ankle.
Teammate Jeff Gibson ran a solid race both nights and walks away with the points lead. It is great to see Jeff back in the AX series for 2009. Tuf/Thor Honda is looking for yet another title this season with "Gibby."
GPF Babbitts Online Kawasaki had some good showings with Shane Sewell, he leaves Grand Rapids fourth place in points. They also had Jerry Lorenz and Daniel Aulsaybrook riding under their team set-up.
Bobby J's Yamaha Keith Johnson won the Arenacross main on Friday, but was off the pace on Saturday and finished outside of the top 10.
Team Faith Yamaha's Kevin Johnson was on the sidelines still nursing his injured wrist. It will be a few weeks at the minimum before he returns to the gate.
That is about it. There is much more that went down, but I have not gotten much sleep in the past 3 days.
