Always see talk of 180-190lbs being the "too heavy" for a 125 talk... im 6'3" 225lb's on my 02 cr125 at NJMP field of dreams in NJ. pipe/silencer. 50/50 race gas. factory connection spung/valved suspension for my weight. just a middle of the road 32 yr old B rider having a lil fun. not sure why the vid quality is kinda poor :/

02 CR 125 - best bike ever. Haha that's an awesome vid six to one, after seeing you rip and reading all the advice on here I'm positive we'll be able to make a good dirt scooter out of our 02. Just a little update, I ordered a brand new PC Platinum and 304 shorty today from Dennis kirk, be here tomorrow, and got a new top end from trimbles Honda out of Austin MN I get to pick up tomorrow. We also have five gallons of VP mx 82 or something along those lines, I forget what it's called exactly, but trimbles said it's a two stroke specific race fuel, and we bought five gallons of 100 octaine LL from the little airport by us to try as well. I'm going to pretty much copy you, I can't wait till ours runs as nicely as yours. Now we need to step up our skill level to match! You can ride son.

Looks like a fun time! Have you ever compared laptimes with your CRF450?

Nice vid, had an 01 cr125 and after no end of engine work it was still terrible. Bought an 02 125sx and that thing was a rocket ship in comparison, no problem pulling a holeshot.

2000 was even slower. Pretty sure the slowest. I used to jump on my 1996 cr 80 after riding my 2000 cr 125 and I swear the 125 was barely faster.

I'm 5'10 180 lbs and have a blast on my 125. It feels kind of like riding a pit bike because it is so light weight. Corners are so much fun with the power to weight ratio. It's so much cooler than just pointing and shooting with a 450.

I sometimes use a iphone ziptied to my cross bar and an app called track addict. kind of a boot leg litpro, works pretty well.. right around 3-4 seconds seems to be the diff between my 450 and my 125. a second or two comes from not being able to jump/triple things I can on my 450. now if I was 175 lbs like when I was 18 yrs old im sure that would be a lil closer.

thanks for the compliments too

The funny thing is, that bike can be made ridiculously fast! I rode an 02 motor in an 03 chassis in 03. The '03 was the worst motor every made, in one of the best chassis, FYI. Factory Connection lent me a factory cylinder/head/power valve, and custom (adjustable) powervalve lifter arm. I put that on a brand new crate motor, vforce, PC pipe/silencer, and a custom shorty 38mm keihin carb, which I believe was off an older KX 250, modified by someone in Italy (got this through Al Carr from reactive). At any rate, I pulled a holeshot at Lorettas in 03' on that bike in the 125 pro sport class over Hepler and all the other guys and lead for like 7 laps in sort of slick conditions. The bike definitely had plenty of power in this configuration.

I remember that cylinder was cut in a really interesting way and had epoxy to reshape the exhaust ports. But damn, that bike revved to the moon and pulled so hard. Coupled with a set of A-Kit forks and this bike was just amazing, loved every minute of riding it. I remember putting it all together and taking it for a few laps at Raceway Park and just laughing my ass off in my helmet when I realized what factory riders were working with. And this bike didn't even have the custom lower end from Japan.

cool story. I plan to have the cyl done over the winter with a 134 setup. Hopefully it will be close to the stock 16 ktm 125sx I rode. Lol. What is diff about the 03 chassis? I thought they were all the same from 02-07, just Susp minor valving changes along the way. I find the bike does not feel dated chassis/suspension wise at all. Its really balanced and really has no bad traits. it does have 47mm Showa TC forks on it valved by fc.

There is so much you can do to an 02. You can go to the old style cylinders the Hpp. I was running Boyesen rad because it has a bigger in take. Plano Honda ran the old 95' cylinders. They also used an 01-02 yz 125 air boot because it was bigger. Now we just get the 07 boot. People under estimate how good a cr 125 can be. It just takes time and a little money to make them really good. As motox505 says about factory stuff it's ridiculously better. I'd say the 02 is the most versatile cr 125 you can have as far as motor combinations and mods that can be done.

I still have that 95 cyl I bought from you. I had planned on using his it to go 144. But after speaking to a few well name engine guys they assured me the 02 cyl as a 134 would be the better option power wise. So I'm all over the place now lol.

Slowest? Apparently you never rode an 84 YZ 125.

What does Robbie Reynard weigh? He was killing the guys on 450s.

OP looked pretty good in the vid. The motors in these bikes aren't too bad, they just don't breathe very well in the alum frame.

Good vid, fod is a fun track for sure. Best part is they keep working to make it better. I was there last Friday and it's already got a redesigned section, hopefully they keep that up.

Your '02 CR125 would eat my old '86RM125 for lunch, then spit out the remains stuck in its teeth while you rode with one hand the rest of the moto. That was a slow 125!
