Where do Engines go to die?
Im looking for a blown up Engine for a YZ250f.. years 2014-2018.. i want to learn how to build motors and i figured i might be able to find a severely damaged motor for really cheap.
Let me know if anybody knows of one..

The Shop
so you would essentially be buying a transmission and a bunch of fasteners and building it all from new parts. Not much to work with
a bike that just needs a crank and top end will usually just get slapped back together, wrench rabbit style
The problem I've seen it cost.
It is no big trick to find a non-running 250f on craigslist of Facebook market place. 'Won't start", 'Needs head", 'needs rebuilt' with older ones going for around $1000 and newer ones for 2 & 3 times that.
But then comes the questions of 1) How much $$ will I put into it to rebuild? and 2) What is bike worth after all that?
Personally, just haven't found the right deal yet.
Where do complete engines go? Here's one example:
I have a complete '10 model Suzuki 250F engine and carb that has been sitting in my back shed about five years. I offered to help a kid rebuild his bike and he didn't have any cash for the parts. I'd give it away, but last year he got in touch, so I have to wait another four. I made this kid re-assemble the same engine after we made a parts list so nothing got lost. What got lost was his interest in motocross.
Lots of guys think they're going to rebuild their own engine, they take it apart (maybe with a friend's help) then see the cost of all those new parts. Those engines typically sit disassembled in a variety of milk-crates, boxes and/or bags for a handful of years in a dusty, poorly lit shed or garage.
