I ordered new throttle cables went with motion pro and it says to lube before use with motion pro lube. I tought you wern't suppose to lube throttle cables and just replace them, as the lube forms shavings of grit/dirt? are motion pro cables any good or should i have went with oem? they were only $15

Lube them all,any kind.

I found it easier to lube from carb end up if already on bike.

Taking apart the pull pull housing was more a pain.I'd remove the cover and spray white grease into tube housing and leave it at at that after watching for my lube to come out the cable first from lubing from carb end.

I use wd40 first then white grease then a little wd40 again to break down the white grease a little.

If Motion Pro suggests doing it, I'd go with their advice.

You never lubed your clutch cable?

I worked hard to find an ideal lube for that, easy clutch pull is key,

The lubes I posted worked best for me

I used to use WD and sometimes a little chain lube with WD again to push it through when they started to get little hard, and then they would be good again. But then after not long they would start dragging again and require lube. And the process would repeat.
Someone mentioned to me about not lubing so I tried it and I found they never got stiff until about a year old. It seemed once they got a taste for lube, you had to keep it up. So I stopped and so did the need to lube. I just replaced them with genuine cable at 6 months and cleaned out and greased my clutch lever and perch as well as brake lever pivot regularly and it was always good. $30 is a drop in the ocean really for a super light clutch. You would use more in exotically labelled cable lube.
Just my experience and yours may be better. Only Elvis really knows.

I just use the maxima stuff, the cleaner and lube. Cheap, and works well.

I like the bicycle chain lube. The reason being is its very clean. The lack of sticky stuff helps prevent dirt from hanging there, too.

I think the kind I'm using is Finish Line, but there are many others.

finish line wet lube is good stuff. I was going to suggest it but didn't think most would have it available!

I never lube my clutch cable....it never gets gritty and if it does I just replace it. My theory is that the lube attracts dirt and makes the pull worse over time. I prefer the dry feel because it seems more consistent in feel/pull. Now I know a fresly lubed cable is pure butter but it doesn't stay that way for long. Ive had great experiences leaving mine dry but that's just me and I use my clutch A LOT.

Motorcycle manufacturers also suggest changing oil and putting fuel in the gas tank before riding. Smile

I can see that for a cable that has some exposure to outside elements. But being that a throttle cable is well-protected...

I'd recommend using silicone spray instead of white grease.

Never had an issue and used this set up for years.Sometimes spray some brake clean down first on a used bike to flush it out, then dry and follow with this.Just hit it once a year.
