I heard something ( i forget from who) at the beginning of the year that really makes sense and proved to be true. The guys that didn't really race SX and had a long time to prepare for outdoors do really well in the 1st round. After the 1st round though all the guys that race SX had two weeks to prepare for round two and get all their outdoor set ups dialed in. Tomac, Alessi, Searle , and Reed all had extra time to prepare for outdoors this year and it showed in their round 1 results. Since then not so much. Those guys I mentioned above had countless hours to set up their bikes where guys like Dungey had just a week or maybe two weeks at the most. Barcia last year had the same advantage and he had way more speed than everyone else the first round to. Too bad he couldn't go the fast for the whole 35 min.

I believe Tomac and a few others are still suffering from the impact of heat exhaustion in Texas.

My understanding of heat exhaustion is that you recover within 48 hours just fine if you are a healthy young adult. Heat stroke, on the other hand, can cause problems with the liver, nerves, etc.. if you don't treat it right away. I may be wrong, but I would think that by now, these healthy boys should have fully recovered. I am pretty sure they received excellent care in Texas and were told what to do to recover quickly from either heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Bad starts for both of these guys too. I think if they were in the top 3 off the gate they'd stick around there.

Well, that didnt happen for Eli at Budds or Millville.

Alessi gets a good jump, but then gets swallowed up by everyone else.

Think it was hot at Freestone, you should be here now! That was just a warm day back then. Now it's HOT and Tommy, Blake, Trey, Cunningham, Lemoine, Millican and many others are putting in some serious moto's in it during the week.

HOT???.....you wanna talk about hot??!!?? it's a God damn blistering 72 degree's here right now in Oregon! I feel like i'm going to melt when i step outside.

Seriously.........it's been hotter than normal every where this year. Except here for some reason. our summer basically just started a few weeks ago. We had shit loads of rain until the middle of June fer Christs sake!

Here is to hoping that we have a late summer which goes into Sept and Oct !!

You hit it right on the head, it has to do with training for the heat.

Think about who trains in really bad heat: Dungey, Hahn, Short, Canard, Regal, Cunningham. These guys are always charging the whole time.

Townley, Pourcel, Alessi, Tomac - they all train in Cali or Colorado. I'm sure there are exceptions, but for the most part TX, OK, and FL boys are usually the ones charging at the end of the hot races.

Yah, that's from the RV podcast with Matthes. Seems he was spot on.
