When the ship goes down, you don't hire the same captain back.

Bad move. Terrible move.

I thought Carruthers was alright. He wasn't the publisher (who should take the blame). Anyway the business model changed, with the internet, economy, etc. and they didn't move fast enough. Anyway, I'm not sure if there's room for a Cycle News format needed anymore at all.

I think Cycle News lost a lot of folks when they reduced coverage and cut the

pay in half of the local and regional coverage guys - guys like me - 4 or 5 years ago.

I think that ( effectively) cutting out us local guys - especially the non-Californians,

reduced the interest and, ultimately snowballed into a crises where advertisers

jumped ship. Obviously, bringing back advertisers will be the biggest hurdle .

In the last couple years - when the mag slimmed down to nothing - flags were raised.

In this digital age, I'm not sure a renewed version will work. Things seemingly went askew

starting in better times. Admittedly, I miss the weekly rag tho.

I am also one of those "Regional guys" and I stopped writing stuff for them after the payments became more and more difficult to get.
I like doing it and love to give a little national attention to our racers here in New England but working for free got a little old.

All of the editors and folks that I dealt with were always really nice but I agree with Rup reducing the interest in our local stuff hurt them ad wise.

I would love to see them back and have a strong presence on the web but I think the print mag might be tough to fly.
