Yeah, this day only Tomac will remember as the day he won the title, the rest will remember it for other reasons.

for sure that should go in the history books to go from last to first at his first ama outdoor race. maybe this does show that gp riders are faster than us riders.

Which is just fine for Tomac. The guy won the title, he could care less about someone else winning the overall.

I think the 450 GPs are quite a bit deeper at the moment, however as far the very top riders are concerned they're all equally capable (no one would be surprised to see Tomac clean-up next week).

It really more than anything comes down to the track. The top GP riders are very proficient technically. The variety of tracks and terrains they ride really demand precision. You could see this with Jeffrey at the end of the last moto especially; riding around like he was in a gear too high, on the pegs, no hurry... But at the same time the absolute picture of momentum. Of course the top AMA riders are equally capable, but the Nationals themselves (the tracks) are comparatively similar from rd to rd - favouring a fairly uniform set-up and technique.

A normal, well constructed, and logical post is appreciated. Well said.

I dont remember Tomac or Webb comming from second last to win the motos.. it's not the results that were impressive today, it was the effort that he put in last moto. Im not a Herlings fan normaly but today he deserves the cred.

Apples and apples?

Actually, to be fair, Webb did come from last-ish in the second moto at Charlotte and passed everyone, including Herlings. There were 23 bikes in the field that night, not 40, but the second 20 are always crap anyway. That was a great ride.

Don't compare this to popping into town and winning on a borrowed bike. Not quite the same thing.

He didn't win, he totally dominated everything and everyone. Herlings wasted everyrider the USA could muster and actually made it look simple.

Who knows how it can go next weekend but bottom line is that Tomac and Musquin were either crashing or on the verge of crashing trying to keep pace with Herlings who looked pretty in control.

We hear all year long, riders bitching about bike setup, track conditions, hemorrhoids, etc for poor performances and you have this kid that hops off a jet, onto someone elses bike and slaughters the whole entire field on a track he's never been seen, let alone, ridden on before. That is some RC level shit.

Herlings crushing everyone isnt that much of a surprise when you consider even Dean Ferris pulled a 2nd at Highpoint

That is it, right there. When they did try to mix it up with the Bullet, you could see they were over the edge. I actually kinda wish Musquin had forced his way past in the first moto just to see Herlings blow back by a few turns later (and to see Decoster's reaction). Priceless shit.

top 5 rides of all time. the bullet just gave a bunch of riders nightmares tonight.
eli and a healthy bagget.along with marvin aside. eli would have rode different for sure.
insane when you watch how fast the top 20 are and the elite just mow them down.

When your riders concentrate on supercross, you end up getting your ass kicked at motocross. Outdoor mx is the real racing, but since stupid supercross is more lucrative, this trend of euros beating our guys asses will continue. Get used to it.

That's the point, you can twist results to suit an agenda.

Not sure if Eli would go all out for the win, vs saving himself and preventing injury? Probably would get some $ incentive, but it's not a must win? Idk

I be willing to bet Eli would rather not chance hurting himself to where it would affect a potential payday at Monster Cup. I kind of preferred the days when guys raced for the win and the paycheck seemed secondary. That's how Herlings looked to be riding on Saturday.
