Is it too late to put him on our Des Nations team-2? He can take Ronnie Macs place.

Could a guy like that keep up with the best of the best back when 500’s we’re still racing?

Imagine if that guy could go back in time with his style and race. It would blow people’s minds.

That’s the brother of one of this forum’s members. Drawing a blank on his name. Shoots lots of northeast amateur video.

Keep up with the "best of the best" from the past?

Whipping and scrubbing a few jumps and 'styling it up' for a video does not make a World beater.

I'm sure he's a very fine rider, whoever he is, but, he's not out there at one of your Nationals with the current best of the best, so he'd no get within a sniff of the "best of the best" from the past.

Especially in 2 x 40 minute plus 2 laps Moto's.

I love that video. It has been posted on here before.

Love the deep sound of the power on that engine plus the guys is riding it with the modern day pro’s style. Just pinning it, whipping and scrubbing. The guy looks great.

Bikes like that were only jumped straight back in the day. Not too many whipped it around because that was not the style.

I agree here.

I never got to see a 500 national live but that would be awesome.

Dude can scoot on the big bore with style and ease for sure. We had Cross Up's in the 70's and 80's...yay. Blush

I had a friend in high school that would say "that's what a 3-stroke would sound like". Windy and guttural.

There were bumps when that bike was in production. Watch an old school Unadilla race. Surfin a smooth track wide open is fun but it isn't a race track.
Not that it isn't fun. I remember Mammoth when it was still ripped deep in the 80's and you could back a CR500 into a corner wide open during practice - until the braking and acceleration bumps made it a race track.

That’s a bad dude right there . In my opinion for bike and talent consideration, one of the top videos ever.

Yep, and I remember my built 500 lacking power on a sand track back in the day.

Guy's a magician. He changed gear sets without even leaving the track.

You want to see 500s in real usage, go to Duke Video and get the boxed set of 500GP seasons from 86 to 90.

Not all GPs are covered, and I think the USGPs are not in (most of) them - I assume because of US TV coverage / deals, much like how Daytona SX used to be not included in broadcasts / DVDs?

Youngsters will go from "shit they're Slow", to " Oh f**k , that's insanely fast". Some magnificent tracks, some nasty. But, Men, racing Big Bikes, doing two 40 + 2 Moto's. Billy Liles is shown a fair bit, for you Americans that need to 'root' for a compatriot.

Another great DVD to get is the 97 World 500 Champs, with racing as it should become / return to :
Four Strokes and Two Strokes going head to head, with 360/ 380 KTMs ( a mixture of Linkage and first PDS), 500 2ts, and Big Boomer 630 / 650 4ts. Trampas Parker has a wry comment or two, and is shown racing a fair bit.

If your all 'modern' like, you can also purchase many items as Downloads, at Duke.

Rob - let me - well, us here - know when your book is ready.

I'm looking forward to it.

I'd love to see one from Gary Semics as well. The stories he's put up on this site a few times were fantastic - as I'm sure yours' will be.

Of course, I'm assuming it will be about your Racing. It could be about anything - Gardening even. Now that, I could do with advice about - Gardening is a Blood Sport for me, I do more damage to myself doing that than with 2 wheels.

Gardening... Lol!

No, it will be about what is was like to race in GPs back in the day - what it was like to be the other side of the fence, racing those legends and historic tracks.

Don't disrespect the guys that rode them years ago. Could this guy keep with Johnson, Ward, Bailey, Thrope, Gebeors? I very much doubt it.
