With land/track closures happening all the time, riders/families dropping out all the time, sport is still a cult sport, where are the incentives? I am glad to have come up from the late 70s/80s, great time for mx... sadly it will never be repeated.

Yep, some good times. A whole bunch of transition has happened, some good, some not so good. Seems like more riders are getting injured than ever before, and the severity of the injuries appears to be worse now, but maybe that's just due to thr widespread information available today.

gosh, things seem to have changed in my good old USA. most of what I am reading on this thread indicates the current crop of mxers are starting to get a bit socialistic and wanting a "fair playing field" for mx competition today whereas back in the 70/80's everyone was excited about the progress and development of mx.

ho hum....... guess that's the way it is...... guess mx bikes have reached the end of development --- time to just stop and ride what we have..........

Don't tell Elon Musk about that concept.........

You know... ehh, forget about it... you never listen anyhow.
You should've gone to town on the RIDICULOUS analogy where he says, " 2002 Honda, looks just about like a 2016 Honda, if you ask me."

There's Soooooo Much Stupidity in that statement that I actually Laughed Out Loud.

So...some one chimes in on how a bike looks and NOT on how VERY different they are mechanically and chassis-wise? OK.

How much do KTMs and Yamahas resemble their decade old counterparts?

You guys oughta learn a little about engineering, product development and what ACTUALLY goes on in to the process of developing a bike...before you post stupid shit like this. Go learn about Brand or Product "Continuity" and get back to us.

That's my rant for the day.

I think it has worked out well - the Factories have the GPs, All Japan and other series to run full on Works bikes in, if they want. And, the highest levels of US racing has rules that constrain them (somewhat) which bring benefits in their own way.

There can still be a serious amount of 'unobtainium' on US based bikes, that No privateer or even satellite team can get their mitts on. . And, you can see anything from complete Works bikes through to barely modified production bikes in the GPs / other series. When Pourcel did his year and a half(?) of 450 GPs, it was written that he was offered a full SR450 Kawasaki, but preferred the production based bike. Sometimes, riders don't like / want complete exotica. A Works bike , gone in the wrong direction, can be a bit of a handicap, especially when engineers / a company doesn't want to admit they effed up.
