Huh? Wha?

Every track I've ever been to had "man made" obstacles! Amateur, Pro and hell even little "illegal" ride spots we brought shovels too back in the day...

The last one I saw was probably a an AMA national at Racing World in So. Cal. in probably '78 or so. Ribbons laid out on the side of a hillside with maybe three feet of grass covering the whole thing. Awesome.

Every National track has manmade features.

Almost all tracks in the past 30 years have some kind of man made influences but I agree would love to see pics of GP style layouts, are they any natural style tracks left in country?

How was it different that year? And isn't Devil's Drop built up a little bit? But yeah, I think that is as close of a natural track as there has been for a while.

While that was fun to watch, I was thinking... today's racers and machinery would just relegate that "back in the day" rough track to... a freeway of sorts? Anyone else?

86 was the last year they held the GP there.
Not sure about Devils Drop being built up....maybe it eroded over time. I raced there 88 until around circa 98 when REM moved their program to Glen Helen.
I loved racing at Carlsbad.

I somewhat agree but you have to consider how beat up a natural track can get left un prepped and just like back then, the best in the world find ways to hit sections harder and launch off of natural obsticals much further than imagined. for the most part today's national tracks keep things mixed up. I just hope the series doesn't become more uniform and all the tracks become more alike. Then we would have generic supercross tracks half the year and then generic mx the rest of the time.

I think it would be cool to lay out a natural old school grass track with a lot of elevation, then build man made features throughout the course. Turn the best of the best loose and watch them make fresh lines in the grass.

Funny thing I was offered the chance to go help hang track banners with the crew at that place the week before, but I said no, I think some girl was more important at the time.

Rumor had it that in exchange for working to hang the flags you could bring your bike and take the first laps, but they never let anybody on that track until race day.

That was the most perfect track ever, Waves of green grass right in the middle of trabuco canyon, and loam like you've never seen in SoCal.

Just saw this photo on Facebook. Thought it would fit in this topic.

Never been there but it should be in Croatia.

You have to define man-made features. Almost every track has them. Carsbad as well. Namur for sure, and there were man-made features at the great Sears and Hollister tracks.

Any track that has a starting gate has "man-made features"......

Time marches on.....word has it they are doing away with leather helmets in football too.

So I hear...

Pitchers mound is moving back 10'.

Raising the net in tennis 6' I hear.

Football field is 120 yards in 2015.

Indy is going to 347 miles next year.

And NASCAR is putting a small jump in the front straight at Atlanta so it's more exciting.

Motocross has been heavily influenced by SX.

Some feel way to much.

Bout damn time, those lazy ass pitchers need to stretch it out.

Tennis needs to allow contact before I am tuning that in.

Football should shorten the field by half and allow weapons..

Indy should be a 2 day

NASCAR should add jumps and ring of fire.

Supercross has heavily influenced the number of people that actually know what Motocross is now.

I understand but disagree

85 Dilla looked awesome.
Never understood the difference between new school and old school rough....Until I rode MAMMOTH EAST.
Gave me even more respect for the shit that was going down in that era.

I guess I don't believe motocross is "better" because more people know about it.

Curious: How has more people knowing about MX helped you and your MX experience?
