KR is a beast! I remember when he raced a 150xc in one of the last races of the season 4 or 5 years back after he had already wrapped up the title. He dominated on that little bike that weekend.

Unadilla 2018 I think. Crashed out of moto 2.

Yeah it was muddy but not awful. He was 6th in Moto 1 and crashed going for 3rd or 4th in Moto 2. He was heading for 3rd OA behind Musquin and Tomac.

EDIT. It was pretty muddy. Phil got 3rd. This had the Barcia Webb flipoff battle but doesn’t show the crash where Russell injured his shoulder.

Yea he is a badaazz rider,. Mud is the great equalizer. Lotta dnf in those races, though. I wd like to see what he would do in a non mud race. Strang did red bud awhile back Ended up around 25th.

I hope he continues to race the series until the nationals start up, if that happens this year.

Maybe some other guys will join him.

Honestly did not expect Zacho to be that far back. Cool to see him go out there regardless and props to guys on the top step!
That’s just it, I’ve had this argument with buddies comparing different disciplines. These guys are specialists at what they do, it’s their sandbox. Props to ZO16 for entering, major cred for this alone. The top MX/SX guys could cross over and be in the hunt with some preparation I’d think but it’s a different game. These guys ride on instinct, no manmade track to study and get dialled.

This should show how much conditions play a role in GNCC for moto guys.

This same race with no dust and good conditions he’s bouncing around top 5 or 3 for a couple hours IMO even with a bad start.

Maybe the 450 would of held him back either way and he wouldn’t of been as good as I’m thinking, was surprised they didn’t let him ride a 350.

Hard to say with a full healthy field, there are 12-15 factory riders. In a non mud race. Doubt he s beating any of those. Imo.

no shit. but does he ride woods every week on a 450? just seems like a lot of extra weight and crank/wheel inertia.

The majority of the field rides 450s, the main reason he rode the 450 was because it was bollingers bike. Since he’s been out I’m sure the team has plenty of 450 parts. If I was him I don’t think I would ride something so drastically different from what I had been in the past 2 years for a one off event.

I pulled up a random race from last year. Budds

P10 Cunningham
P11 John Short
P12 James weeks

You’re selling him extremely short if you don’t think he can beat those guys on a factory KTM 450 on his day.

In the few clips I watched of Zacho, his style of sitting down and far back just doesn't look like it works in the woods. Bike just pogos off the sharp rocks and tree roots

GNCC”s are generally miserable. It’s either a blown out dust bowl from the ATVs”s the day before or a muddy , rocky mess. The conditions are rarely prime. The guys that race these year in & year out are tough as nails. I always did the Florida round, it was more MX than the other rounds. 1 year I did the whole series, I enjoyed something different but couldn’t get back to MX fast enough. You find out what your made of when you race a 3 hr race in hell.....I give Osborne credit, he”s not sitting around, he is racing.

GNCC is gnarly chit. Its pretty incredible that he did what he did. Even though he is in phenomenal conditioning, its probably similar to asking Usain Bolt to run a marathon. No doubt he could do it, and probably do well, but its pretty different. KR trains to ride 100% for 3hr straight in nasty shit. ZO was trained to go 100% for 20min +2. Anything other is wasted and not optimized training for ZO

Mud race. We all know how bad these guys are in mud. Sometimes i feel i could do better. And i am terrible at mx. Mud riding is survival. Gncc guys are very aware of that.

Yesterday was my first GNCC. I’m almost 40, and been riding ~25 years. That was Probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I’ve raced several sprint enduros, but that’s nothing compared to the 2+ hours of straight riding. I’ve got so much more respect now for the pros and the amateur riders that can run up front in these races. Really wish I started racing in my 20s, haha.

I was thinking about that too. He rides really far back on his bike. I wonder if the rear shock is a lot stiffer for his riding style compared to the other guys. Pretty cool how he makes it work. Villo always had a crazy looking style, but it was fast!

Nice job finishing. I think with all of the dust that was out there I would have likely bowed out and not risked rebuilding my engine again.
