My brother bought a YZ with a a seat cover provided as the old one was torn. Absolute b*star*d to put on neatly. Is it maybe down to being a cheap cover?

Unlikely. Seat covers are tough if you've never upholstered before.
What brand seat cover? Did you remove the old one? What kind of staples/gun are you using? There are lots of variables at play.

Attack brand cover with an A-logo on the tail.
Same experience for me.
Just buy Motoseat or Gutts racing or SDG Innovations … they are way easier to install.

Not sure of your financial situation with this project, but I am in the process of restoring a 94 YZ that was not very well maintained by the previous owner. So I had a full Guts foam kit and a Ceet stock replica cover. I took it to a local upholstry shop and they charged me $35 to remove all of the old stuff, replace the foam, and install the cover. For the time and effort, I thought it was worth the payment. May be something to consider calling around for....

Wow. I’m going to open a foam/seat cover installation shop if people pay 35$ for a seat installation.
Me and my dad can install foam+cover in 30 minutes while having fun. I don’t know what’s your problems ma dudeees

I put a Motoseat cover on mine. High quality and custom colors available. Putting on a seat cover isn't the easiest thing to do though. Try looking on youtube for a how to vid or just pay a shop to do it.
