I have the possibility to buy a bike. I dont know what model or year it is. My question is what bike and year is this?

1981 YZ 250. Boost bottle. Last year for that swingarm and air cooled. YZ 125 was water cooled by 81, 1980 no boost bottle

I have seen way worse, once all that red paint is gone it wont be so bad.

It looks like 81', but the front plate must be later ,..vented.

This will keep me smiling all day.Things people forget about these bikes; skinny foot pegs, bad brakes, bad suspension bad vibration.Still part of the greatest era ever (75-85) where new bikes every year were the norm just to keep up with the factories innovations.Now we wait a decade. I was 12 in '81 and thought the YZ250 was the greatest thing ever.Then came the 82 then the 83 then the 84 then the 85.......
