I don't think that you can say anything that would help. When we were car racing, it would be radio silence before the race less some info on timing of when we were going out. Every driver I worked with just wanted to chill out and focus.

My son races pro Endurocross so we've been there many times. What I say all depends on the night and what's happening. A 17 year old Racing in a small stadium with large crowds lined up with guys like Mike Brown, Colton Haaker and Cody Webb he certainly doesn't need pumped up!

Most nights I say something like "you know what to do" as in your a pro now and you got this. Or when his starts are going good I'll say "you know you can get the start over any of these guys".

Try to keep it simple adding a little confidence, but not B.S.ing him.
