especially in my hands! i have been trying to play around more though, some of the stuff the talented guys do just blows my mind! (and pisses me off ) I need to start reading some tutorials and stuff, but im stubborn (and lazy) So just as i learned to work on bikes when i was a kid, i try and do it on my own.
Jeff, i also fixed up your pic the best i could.
This thread is so full of win, really loving the old shots, so many memories!
Back when it really meant something!
The Shop
Ponca was the real deal then for sure.
I just found some gold! ill have to fire up the scanner later, got an epic "1 legger"
That is an awesome pic
Alright this photo isn't all that embarrassing but the story is!
The local bike shop just got in the new wonderful dual sport RMX and wanted the local fast guy to show it off... but he got injured so they asked me to ride it haha
So I go out for the 'expression session' with the bike shop owners words "show them that it's road registrable, you know blow the horn and stuff" ringing in my head, so I take off trying to get used to how soft and heavy the thing was.. I start to panic thinking what am I gonna do for a trick?? I had some pretty shitty tricks in my trick bag but as I got to the table top where we were supposed to do rad, sick tricks I remembered that I hadn't blown the horn yet, so I think, I know I'll just blow it while I throw out a whip.. that'll be awesome!!
well I got as far as the horn and just dead sailored it with a 'beep beep'..
the 'expression session' was won on crowd noise and I was local so I took home the $100 haha
BUT the most embarrassing part was, I beat Andrew McFarlane who pretty much threw it upside down, Troy Carrol who did the first twisted double can thing that I'd ever seen and a no hander lander and a few other 'freestyle' dudes like whealey that were doin the heel clickers and nac nacs and stuff haha
but ah well that $100 went a long way to getting me real drunk later that night
'82 on my RM80, loved that bike! This was at Santa Clara PAL when it was moved over to Great America Parkway. I was railing this berm all day, so i told mom to come grab some pics, as luck would have it, when she got in place i couldnt hit it right for the life of me! *if she took the pic a second later you would of seen me overshoot and fly off the track, happened over and over! never got the pic i wanted
This was at a Lance Moorewood MX School at SandHill Ranch in '84.
And i had that 91 RM 125.. graphically ahead of its time
Great pics ...brings back a lotta memories.
There used to be 4 diff tracks and if you are old like me and a true SH local, you know about "the cave" in the back. Good times in that cave! lol
