...and turned it into this:
The Shop
Me as TC41. yes it hurt.
I wish I knew where all of my pictures from the late 70s early 80s were, I'd definitely post them.
Fun bike when I learnt to push it a bit tho...
Love the helmet!
LA Coliseum, 1975
Carlsbad USGP, 1979
Sears Point, (I think), 1979
I was most likely there that day racing too as I was riding a 91' CR125 in the schoolboy and B class. Loved that track and was my favorite
Here's me (#39) in the D14 paper at mustang's first turn, not sure if its' the same day as yours
Prbly 1972 Spillway Park Santa Maria, CA Montesa 125 Cappra. Won Hangtown novice class @ Plymouth and alot of local races. John Moore put me on this to battle with Steve Bargiacchi and his Husky 125 out of Moore and Sons MC...good times!!!!
2007 Elsinore GP
I decided to race with my pimp hat. It was fun, having a group of drunks calling me "El bandito" every lap was fun.
Pit Row
They may go through the motions, but it wasn't a way of life, and it isn't real.
Like many of you, my early experience was a penny pinching, geeky looking endeavor.
Even if I had known how silly it all looked. I wouldn't have cared. I was riding, and that was ALL that mattered.
I weep for kids now that never get to experience the satisfaction of making a stock YZ silencer "repackable" with a hacksaw, the top of a PJ1 chain lube can and a few pop rivets.
The only thing I regret about my early days in this sport is that I don't have more pictures and video to document the crazy stuff I saw and did.
My advice to any youngsters that happen upon this thread.
Save every picture, and every second of go pro footage.
...and just like your profile picture, I learned to wheelie the water truck before I had my driver's license. Glad for the experience.
Check it out:
I gotta find the one where we have our matching custom made jerseys by Tyson and Tallon Vohland's Grandma, they were epic 70's! Our names ironed on in gold "rainbow tape" style lettering, they were so stylin back then, but looking back...holy hell WTF were we thinking? hahaha
