I knew most of the big name factory riders from the late 70s / early 80s as privateers so that’s a hard one! Magoo, OMara, Bell, Hansen, Zhart was my favorite though.

Regal was quite the anomaly and I think that's such a crazy stat, 2nd in his first moto (Open / MX2) at the MXoN. He bested Ken Roczen, Dean Wilson, Trey Canard, Alessandro Lupino, Jeremy Van Horbeek, Clement Desalle, Andrew Short, and Max Nagl.
There are a number of privateers who have "a good year," or show flashes of brilliance, but not many reach as high as Regal did.
