It is a 2 stroke, 347 cc monster. Churning out about 30.5 horse power at 32.3 NM. Could easily do 170 kmph. This bike at that time was what duke 390 is today.

This bike could not see the light of success as firstly it was way too fast for people to control and it had a very poor fuel economy. The audience at that time were very fuel sensitive. This bike was so scaringly fast that people thought RD stood for rapid death.

I rode this bike around 6 years for the first and last time. Have been madly in love with this bike since then. Loved the shreiking sound, the pulsating pickup, the proudy chromes, the cute dual speedometeres, the retro round headlamps and the long comfy ass dweller. This bike will give you orgasm.

I had a '74 when I was in high school. The previous owner had decked it out with a sissy bar and front and rear crash bars, LOL. Fast, noisy and vibrated. It loved to wheelie. I was chased by the County Sheriff for a half mile while doing 80 with only a learners permit. Didn't see or hear him until he pulled along side me. Let me off with a yelling. Good times.

30 hp was on the low end for a stock 350AC. You can get more out of them with pipes and porting. You really should just go ahead and buy the Suter MMX500. 195hp 500cc two stroke gp replica.

That was my first street bike in 1980 at 16. My Dad's friend had one he didn't ride, and we bought it for $500 with about 1000 miles on it. Neither of us realized what we were buying but I figured it out pretty quick. I used to sneak out my window at midnight, drift it down the hill, then go ride the PA countryside for an hour or 2. Route 22 at 110 MPH in the dark. Good times, and I lived through it. I should have never sold that bike and still regret doing so.

I got one back in about 1975 that I traded a old dirt bike for. I rode that thing like crazy till I got the itch for another dirt bike and sold it off. Fun bikes

Back in the mid-1970s, the RD-350 was a freaking missile.

This was back in the day when Yamaha's marketing department pulled out all the creative stops for nomenclature ...

RD = Road
DT = Dirt
MX = Motocross

You couldn't really get on the wrong piece.

That’s only the pretty ones. That TZ is a unicorn. He was giggling like a school girl when he got his hands on that thing. Apparently only about 20 made it across the pond in 89 and they were $20,000 CAD. 250 2-stroke twin, reversed engine like the new YZs, 218lbs 70hp and a top speed over 250kmh
