Sorry I still don't get it. What is insensitive about stating where a disease originated from?

People need to get a grip

China = Country in Asia

Chinese people = Just the same as you or I or any other person in the world. Some good, some bad, some A-holes, but I would gather that most are good people just trying to make a good life for themselves and their family.

Communist Chinese Government = Full of A-holes that lie to the world hate the United States and will kill their own to squash a revolt or their lies getting out.

Rather this discussion be about the potential greatest off road bike ever.

I raced a friends 250FX a couple years ago and fell in love with it. I thought it was perfect in every way. Then when I decided to get back into riding/racing (after 30 years) I ended up buying the Honda 250RX. All i can say is that if you liked the Yamaha then give the Honda a try. The only thing i wish it had was a little more bottom out of the corners. I think a 300F would be the perfect off road bike. FWIW my son just bought a new 450RX and its also amazing but the 450 is just to much for me.

I have to agree. I thought it just because im slow but maybe not.

A WR350F and YZ350FX would be two good options! I'm guessing the YZ350FX would be more realistic since it's in a competitive nich with KTM's more race-ready model.

Owned current gen 350s (xcf/fx), owned current gen YZ250FX, own current gen 250SXF...the 250f handle better period, but it's the motor, not the bike itself that makes the difference..

Want both? Buy a Sherco 300f FE... Based on the RM250 chassis but with a pumped up 250f motor, KYB suspension and Brembo brakes... That bike is made of something special!!!

Just throwing my 2 cents in, I did a pretty tight woods race on my 18 450 last summer and it honestly did much better than I thought it would. The woods were also way tighter than I was expecting. I think the only thing that woulda been better would be a Rekluse.

I got my ass kicked, but it was more due to my lack of skill and conditioning than anything. I thought the bike did pretty good though.

A 350 would be cool, but If they threw in a Rekluse in the 450X I'd be all in.

if someone had the ability you could turn your 450 into a 350 with a shorter rod. the length of a yz400f rod in a 450 would make the engine a 350 just food for thought. I don't have the abilities to make this happen or the tooling but Ive thought about it many times over.

I completely agree, just saying ive thought about it many times over and it could be done. If Yamaha really wanted their guys on a 350 they have the money and resources to do it.

No, not really Hans. And when you owned one you seemed to have similar sentiments. My buddy is a Sherco dealer. I spend a lot of time riding them. The 300 feels lighter, is narrower and handles better but the motor is not stronger than the Yamaha. It is a very smooth motor, really easy to ride and great power delivery.

Maybe you can point me to where I establish that theme. I don’t see it.

You are right, I owned one. And what caused me to move away from it was simple, lack of power...I think the 300 gaps that bridge better then the 350 then making an actual 350. The Yamaha has great low end off idle torque, the 350 doesn't. But the 300 has 'just' that bit more but also revs far too. Even the 350 struggles to pull the taller gear, the Sherco didn't. Did it pull like a 450, of course not, but better then the 250f, and better then the 350f. But once you hit the midrange, the 350 takes off... Hence why I think the Sherco 300 is a better motor then the
250FX and possibly a better bike for offroad.

The importer over on TT has remarked that the geometry is based off RM250 numbers...

If Yamahas opinion on the 350 is the same as Travis Prestons there will never be a 350. I was pretty shocked at how out of touch his opinion on the 350 is though. He basically said they aren’t popular enough and that he didn’t like them.
Yeah, I sort of agree. Either twist the throttle on the 250 harder, or learn to ride a 450 well. I am all for more options from manufacturers, but I think the 250 is plenty powerful for anyone under 175 pounds. If you are over 175, you should be strong enough to throw a 450 around.

250: fun to ride because you can throw it around, rev to the moon
450: learn to tame the beast, ride a gear high, be smooth like Roczen
350: doesn't handle as well as the 250, but you don't have the power of the 450

Why make a 350? If you want more than a 250 get a 450 if a 450 is to much turn the throttle less. The throttle is there for a reason.

Glad u arent in charge at ktm. More options suit more people's styles and desires.how boring it would be if there weren't options.

Millions of dollars into tooling, engineering and manufacturing?????

As someone with 20 + years in the automotive tooling field I am well qualified to tell you that you have no idea what you are talking about. Ever hear of parts bin engineering? Most likely they could do it without much capital expenditure, my guess is they think it would cannibalize sales from the 250 or 450 and not generate conquest sales.

If it was just the cost of building it Yamaha would have a 350 and KTM wouldn't.

Get the YZ250F and just twist the throttle harder
This is why I come to Vital. Some really moto wise people come up with brilliant comments and ideas that always impresses me

It was a joke, mostly. They should make one! It would probably make them money. I’ll never buy it, though, as I explained in a less sarcastic manner above.

Yamaha were the original innovator ( well, when it comes to the Japanese manufacturers) of modern 4ts.

What I'd love to see, is them get a jump / jump over the European manufacturers, and, of course, the other Japanese mfrs, and make a 350 / 400 / 450 2t. Somewhere in that range. With a preference for the 350 /400 side of it.

Something truly different, that's not just a squared up 250 2T (to make a '300').

That would be something special. That, would outsell a 350 4t, I reckon.

It's Not going to happen. But of course, a 350 4T isn't going to happen, either.

Rod length has nothing to do with displacement. You would need to change either the stroke or the bore. Seeing as the 350 already has a very short stroke, why it likes to rev, I do not see that being feasible.
