I have a 16 KTM 350 XC-F. Lots of suspension work and a few tasteful mods. Rode a 2016 YZ250F. That YZ handles much better than the KTM. It just turns really well... really planted front end the carves a flat corner much better IMO.

Now, if Yamaha made a 350 FX... they would sell a TON of them. Just a suggestion Yamaha... but I'm pretty confident that bike would be a major hit!

My 3 cents. )

250 and 350 are so very different. I ride a 250fx and have no interest in a 350. A 300 on the other hand......maybe. Go
Ride the 2020 250fx. Its so awesome compared to the 16 you rode.

Go ride a new FX or XCF 350 and you'll sell your 16' and forget all about the blue bike.

Did they change the frame/head angle? I have the fork working very well... different internals etc.

There was a rumour that Yami had barcia testing a 350 at a local track about 4-6 months ago

Never heard of that tho..

Everything about the handle of the YZ250F is better, except the brakes. The difference is the motor. The 450 is to much for off-road (south and east coast areas). The 350 is the perfect motor for most anyone B level and above, or 160 lbs plus. 450 is exhausting in long off-road events and the 259 lacks the power for above mentioned riders.

I’ve been spending a lot of time lately on a 2019 300xc-w TPI. I think that is the perfect off-road bike. I can’t wait to buy one for myself so I can get it properly setup, but bone stock they are already amazing. And yes I have ridden it back to back with the KTM 350ex-c

Throw a big bore on the yz250f

So a bike with a smaller engine handles better?

Shocker.

Get the YZ250F and just twist the throttle harder

Beta makes a couple of 350's, white RR or Red RR Race Edition with KYB's also. Or a 390 long stroke.

I wish all the Japanese manufacturers made a 350F. It would be a near perfect bike in my opinion.

Any by the way anyone that thinks a KTM 350 XC-F handles as good as a new YZ250F is NOT going fast enough! The YZ out turns it and is more stable in the ruff.... My 5 cents.

So let me get this straight.

You're comparing a 250 to a 350?
You're comparing a motocross bike to a off-road bike?

Apples and oranges.

Apples and oranges...

And rider preference

Also, Google "inertia"

.

Let me help you... YZ250FX... feel better? Same motor and chassis (except a 6th gear and softer valving).

I raced a friends 250FX a couple years ago and fell in love with it. I thought it was perfect in every way. Then when I decided to get back into riding/racing (after 30 years) I ended up buying the Honda 250RX. All i can say is that if you liked the Yamaha then give the Honda a try. The only thing i wish it had was a little more bottom out of the corners. I think a 300F would be the perfect off road bike. FWIW my son just bought a new 450RX and its also amazing but the 450 is just to much for me.

Sherco makes a 300CC 4stroke with KYB suspension. I've ridden a couple really good bike. I currently have a Sherco 300 2stroke and a 350 KTM both 17 model year, I would make the switch and let my KTM go for 300 4Stroke Sherco with KYB.

The Sherco is nice, feels light and thin but I would take my 250FX over it.

The 250RX is nice, especially the forks but the stock setting is pretty stiff!

Yamaha could make a kit...like a GET-.KIT back in the good ol’ days...

Their 250 motor seems fairly robust and there are a few big-bore kits available; but, I believe a little bit of stroke would go a long way...if I recall correctly...just a few millimeters of stroke contributes A LOT to the overall dynamic of the power production and “distribution” of that power.

ALL of that could be done on a kit that would be SUPER easy for an OEM like Yamaha to develop and sell.

Any knowledgeable engine builders/tuners out there that can validate or un-validate the idea?

I ripped a start from Egypt and I was happy about that.

You're comparing a 350 off-road bike to a 250 motocross bike?

That's like comparing an F150 to a Mustang

|

3/24/2020 9:29 AM

I don’t get you guys. I’m 55 yo and 155 pounds and I love my 450 that’s got a 490 Athena cylinder...and I use every bit of that motor. Jody let me race MXA’s KTM 350 and 250 test bikes on different days and each time I was bummed out that I wasn’t on my 08 crf 490! Although that’s two 20 minute motos on a hilly motocross track. It might be a different story for some stupid three hour race in the desert. To each his own I suppose.

Other than settings, the FX is the same as the F

I think Yamaha should make a YZ355EXC-SE. One up (or 5 up) the orange/white/red guys! To really screw over those guys, they should use the early 2000’s steel frame, toss on an aftermarket hydraulic clutch, ditch the good quality hubs and go with cheaper Chinese shiny ones, slap some new plastic on with energy drink graphics and charge $10k plus. Probably sell every one that was made.

I got my first ride on my Cylinder Works 270 kitted 15FX a couple weeks ago and it was a revelation. Tight woods where I'd usually have to be in first gear and end up being all herky jerky on and off the throttle I could keep it in second and ride way smoother. I didn't think 20 cc's would transform the bike as much as it did. A 350FX would be magic.

I was considering this before I got my 450 and ML talked me out of it since apparently they need the cam chains replaced fairly often. If I was going to get a comp off road model, the last thing I want is more maintenance. The WR's are what I'd look into now.
