Can't believe the lack of info from Yamaha. We have had a deposit on the new YZ65 with our dealer since the day the bike was debuted. Dealer said to expect the bike sometime in April. Dealer called once in April to update us saying they had no information on delivery date. Said this was the norm from Yamaha. April came and went with no further info.

I just got off the phone with Yamaha Motorsports USA. They took all our info and said they would call us back with info. Never recieved a call back from Yamaha. Instead they have our dealer call with the bad news. Yamaha just contacted our dealer to let them know they cancelled the 4 orders our dealer placed on the 65's due to lack of stock.

Told our dealer not to expect the bike anytime soon. They said they could reorder the bike in June. Not trying to come off as some entitled clown but the lack of info has been a bummer.

Guess KTM will get more of my business.

I'm a parts manager at a Yamaha dealer in Washington state. I checked last weekend and there are still no dealers in the state that have one. I think one dealer in Oregon has one. But yeah sounds like this is going to be an issue for a lot of dealerships throughout the country.

Major fail on Yamaha's part. Such hype, build-up and promotion for a bike that they can't get to anybody.

Typical mini dad
Lol! I knew that was coming. Probably deserve it. Just tough when my 8 year old asks me everyday.

This was my real beef with the whole ordeal. Just the lack of info.

There are kids racing them, I guess only the Yamaha supported kids have access to it for now.

Sounds like Yamaha needs to get on the ball and make some bikes. I found all of 3 PW50s in the state of Michigan today. Most of the dealers are being told 2 - 3 months to get one.

Yep, I'd have told Yamaha they just lost a customer. I'll go buy a white or orange one. Maybe next year I'll buy one if my dealership can get a hold of one.

That said I did see a kid run a YZ65 fresh off the showroom floor at Dutch Sport Park last weekend, it looked and sounded great!

I called them initially. They took my information and said they would contact us back directly. They never did.

Instead they hand the info off to our local dealer. Our local dealer contacted us.

I was just pointing out that you must have left something out of your story....like a time lapse or something. It doesn't make sense to complain about them not calling you....if you "just got off the phone" with them....right?

You're not wrong, but the Japanese tend to execute 100% when they finally get around to it, whereas KTM makes you a beta tester when you buy a new model fresh out of the gate and you get to do fun things like replace under-specced internals. pick your poison.

Keep in mind that a lot of dealers promised customers this bike even though they weren’t allocated any to said dealer. I’ve seen this more than once. That’s not Yamaha’s fault. This first run was very limited, more on the second run and more after that.

I understand what your getting at now. I guess my point was that I was told by a customer service rep at Yamaha that they would personally call back and let us know what was going on.

I then got a call from our local dealer with the info. Kind of felt like they (Yamaha) didn't want to hassle with the matter and just passed the buck off to our dealer. Maybe thats their protocol. I'm not sure.

Our dealer seemed pretty surprised also. Our dealer isn't a small volume outfit either.

Sounds like Yamaha is having trouble getting YZ65's to some of the dealers.
If Yamaha didn't give you an answer for this, it could be that either:

a) Yamaha didn't make enough of them to go around for the expected demand.
b) Some dealer in Europe got all of them.
c) The dealer lied to you, and he forgot to order the thing from Yamaha
or
d) Trump has them all locked up on a boat sitting off the coast because he is trying to 'Make America Great Again'

take your pick.

*edit* sorry to hear your going thru this, but its not the first time someone has put money down on new release bike and has gotten the shaft. I've been there, but not with Yamaha.

You can't pick your poison if there's only 1 poison vile to choose from. Laughing

I believe it’s sarcasm and a joke from a thread “S&@! Mini Dads Say”. It’s the internet man, lighten up.

That’s often how it goes when Yamaha releases a new model. I had my dealer order my 18 450 in July, he was first told end of July delivery, which turned to august, then September, then November.

Dealer told me he always orders new models as soon as he can and orders twice the number he really wants.

Probably the biggest issue from Japanese brands on new models is they do like big corporate financial heads who have their bonus on growth % and who have no clue about more flexible manufacturing.

Explained more simply, here are the numbers they will manufacture and sell:
2018: 200
2019: 220
2020: 240
2021: 260
Total: 920

Whereas the demand is more like that:
2018: 800
2019: 200
2020: 150
2021: 150
Total: 1300

Conclusion: each new model, more people are actually staying or going back to KTM ...

Sorry for your kid, it happened to me once too and it didn't change my life, and good luck !

Yeah, that OEM really sucks. It's so easy to source 2,500 parts from your own manufacturing, outside vendors and existing stockpiles; then assemble, test, crate and ship a few thousand completed units nearly six thousand miles; then navigate import customs, EPA and CPSC regulations; then coordinate the delivery of those crates to 1200 dealers simultaneously on the exact date you planned for probably two years in advance.

Those blue dudes should just give up.

BTW, I think the OP was more upset about the way they handled the delay, instead of the fact that there was one. I understand that angle.

No matter how people try to swing it, Yamaha dropped the ball. They promised something and didn't deliver. You put your hard earned money down and in return you expect a level of service, and not an unreasonable one at that.

People on this forum love to hate anyone that complains but I can assure you if any of them paid for something and didn't receive it, they'd be all bent out of shape. I'm going to start listing stuff in the for sale thread and when people pay me, I'm just going to not send it or update them for months. If they complain I'll call them entitled or a 'typical mini dad'.

Yamaha's loss. They shouldn't take deposits or even announce a product if they don't have the capacity to deliver it.
