I have not posted much. BUT this is not a fishing post and I think should be outside the ultimate 2 stroke topic. I have a TRUE water cooled Yamaha YZ big bore 2 stoke. I have searched for this motor. . I will post pics tommorrow. I am WOOD.

This motor is WR500 cased, Water cooled cylinder and head , inpeller pump, THE ONLY TRUE YZ500.

I found this motor in Colorado.

I can not upload pics yet.

I will send to someone who can upload. Trust me DROOL.

I plan to build the ULTIMATE and ONLY true YZ500 in the USA.

Powervalve? Nikasil or steel liner?

This is a YZM500:

No, actually that's a lustbucket. Who has the one that showed up at Farleigh(?) to be ridden? Everything about that bike is just damn amazing.

re YZM500. My understanding is that the water pump was an external setup and might even have been the same or similar as the KTM 600 LC4. I heard the cases were 490....I could be wrong.

This doesnt deserve its own thread.

It deserves to be a BOOK or a TV special. I hope you log the whole story starting with the search all the way to the final machine sitting on the stand. Better yet, the RIDE review.

I am subscribed.

The funny thing about the YZM500 is that talking to riders who raced it, it wasn't that good. Both guys I talked to that spent time on the bike said the production 490 was perhaps a better bike than that one. Very strange but true.

It's still an amazing bike, there are something like 3 left in the world.

Sounds like just the motor, not the whole bike?

That's funny, but not necessarily surprising. The YZM is a work of art, but considering the time period and the R&D in the big bores at that time (especially from Yamerha) I'm not surprised that it didn't live up to it's stunning good looks. What did they cite specifically as being worse than the production 490?

I would guess it had a lot to do with it being their first (and last until Everts' works YZF ~15 years later) attempt at an aluminum MX chassis.

It's funny you say that because I remember reading Greg Primm's ride report of his dream CR500AF with the '97 Honda frame that TBlaizer posted, and he said that the ultra rigid frame actually performed very well with the monster 500 motor pushing it. Maybe it had lest to do with the metal and more to do with the geometry, I don't know.

The 490 was a pos, if this bike was worse must been the whole pile instead of a piece.

Yamaha and Suzuki killed the 500 class ,not wanting to water cool one.

Ye of no faith..

OK here is what I have found out about my engine.

Not a YZM motor.

Not a 500cc

I have found very little info on what I scored.

This motor was built for sidecar motocross by Swiss yamaha importer. I am told it is actually a 560cc. I also have a second parts motor. This motor was raced in the Sidecar world championship in the late '90s by German racer Werner Wittman. It came to the US in a sidecar chassis. The guy in Colorado swapped it out for a YZF450 motor and I purchased. The guy I bought it from had no idea what is was. The Swiss Hoestetler name is on the clutch/water pump cover. The initials JPX are on the cylinder. I have yet to find out who JPX is. The cylinder has a plate under so I figure the crank was stroked. The engine came with bored out carb, electrics and a sidecar exhaust. This is about all I know except I OWN IT. From the silver cases I believe it to be WR based. I am looking for a 2007-2009 white YZF 450 with blown motor to build my YZM replica.

Take your BS flags and troll comments put them in a 2 stroke pipe and smoke them. This is REAL....

Nope I'll keep it raised up when you join the rest of society and upload a picture of your "no BS" non YZF 500 in less than 24 hours. You seriously don't have a cell phone to take a pic, come on to the wonderful world of non dial up inter web and click the "upload photo" button and click upload?

Seriously?

Dude.... Welcome to the 21st century!
