Lost my oil drain bolt last weekend while warming up for the day out on the track. Came back to the truck and oil was dripping off my skid plate. Only God knows how long I was running with low/no oil. Wasnt especially noisy when I parked it. Only noticed when I saw my bike dripping. And I am not shy with the limiter. Took a look at the clutch and cams. Perfect condition. Either I just lost it that last lap, or Maxima oil did its job. Astounding
Dont know how I lost it though. I KNOW I torqued the bolt because I am paranoid of exactly what happened. Bad freaking luck I guess, but the exact same thing happened to my brother the very next day with the same bike. And he says he got it tight. Only thing in common is the brand BOLT copper crush washers.

Unreal that I have heard it from so many people with this model bike
I drilled my new drain plug and use a safety pin tie wired to another bolt now to avoid that ever happening again, I was so pissed at myself!
I bet more than one Vitard has run out to their garage to check their oil drain bolt today after reading the OPs post.

But I think you have a group of people who shouldn’t be working on their own bikes and still wouldn’t get it right. They will either strip it or leave it loose.
Same as the bolt coming loose when using a torque wrench. You would think using a torque wrench is fail proof, but this thread proves otherwise. Folks don’t know how to use those either.
The OP referred to a “Bolt” washer-I presume he meant Bolt brand-an aftermarket bolt kit vendor.
The only issues I’ve ever had with crush washers not sealing (and poor gaskets) is by using off-brand stuff.
Those bolt kits are great for when you lose a number plate bolt at the track, but I wouldn’t trust them on anything critical.
I had two different dripping coolant drain bolts that I couldn’t figure out until I swapped OE washers back on.
Bike lost compression and died. looked down to see oil coming out the bottom. bought a new cylinder and piston, but still making a noise when up to operating temp, along with backfiring. Starts perfect, timing is perfect, sounds great when cold.
I'm at a loss for what it is. Any ideas? It's like a ticking sound.
Unfortunately the only thing we could salvage from the motor was the transmission. Piston skirt snapped off, piston turned sideways and that was the end of my poor pumpkin
