Hello,

I have just read about this issue which was posted on C4MX's Facebook page.
https://www.facebook.com/118743184808233/photos/a.150943564921528.30276…

Did anyone had problems with this? I actually know one guy who had to replace his motor after just 5 hours, but I forgot to ask what was the issue. I suspect it could be the shift assy, but will ask him asap.

EDIT:
The updated part number from Yamaha:

1SL-18140-01-00

The water pump shaft part won't be updated until the 2015 bikes come out.

I saw one locked up at the Baja Acres LLQ last weekend. Maybe a recall is coming.

Yamaha used to come with a 30-day warranty.
Do they still?

The shift detent wheels are breaking... Haeseker Racing has a mod to help. So far, Yamaha does not have an updated part. 209-267-9032

You would have thought they might test some of this crap before they start selling it. Not like they had 13 years of the same old engine to make an improvement.....LOL

The improvement was the production cost.

looks like a heat treatment issue to me, cracks propagating out of the circlip groove, or maybe the rad is too sharp, or a combo of both... the design is as old as the hills, a decent metallurgist will know just by looking at the ends..

Isn't this (the detent wheel not the shaft) the same issue the 05/06 yz125's had? You would think they would learn from their mistake.

I dont believe so, the 125s issue was the shift stopper.

The first link doesn't work for me. The second link I am not sure what I am looking at. I understand the part of the motor but what is the malfunction he is pointing out with the allen wrench. I have a 250F with less than 1 hour on it and would like to get this fixed before it has problems. I had noticed this bike is extremely notchy shifting and this is probably why.

I guess it is the same issue they had on the 125s.

The bearing comes apart and the ball bearings are some where in his transmission.

They run the same roller and I am sure the updated part is the same as the 125s.

I stand corrected, it looks like the same issue as the 125s.

Ok I see the ring around the shifter retainer and am assuming it is for of a bearing that no is longer intact. What does this have to do with the secondary transmission output shaft breaking? Is this 2 different issues or does one cause the other. I just called the local Yamaha rep and he is checking into it. He had heard nothing till now.

I think what happens is the bearings that come out and go through the tranny cause it to lock up and the if the guy is on the gas when it happens the sudden stop probably causes the output shaft to shear.

Same issue with the 125s. But the new roller was a lot better and doesnt fail.

I will talk to my buddy at my dealer and see if there is anything else I can find out today.

.

There are two parts being replaced and one is the shift stopper.

When I get ours in I will let you guys know.

As for now have your dealer / service manager make some calls and try to get the replacement parts on the way.

Here is the updated part number from Yamaha:

Unfortunately, it seems that the water pump shaft part won't be updated until the 2015 bikes come out.

Here is a photo of the parts. Looks like the Stopper is similar to the replacement one for the YZ 125's. (A solid wheel).

As for the Water Pump Impeller and shaft, I not sure what is changed since I have not opened up our bike to replace the parts just yet.

No part numbers listed for either item when they arrived.

As a side note..... Jason Raines DEMO - 2014 YZ 250F has over 200 hours on the bike without these parts being replaced and no problems.

Ya its weird, I called my dealer, spoke to yamaha 3 times and no service bulletin, no known issues, no part number. And all my buddies bikes that have had them since late last year are fine with lots of hours on them. Regardless makes me nervous as Yamaha's are usually bulletproof which is why I didnt hesitate picking up another one but seen the pics posted by c4mx. interesting. My 30 day window is up next month on the warranty, hoping theres a part number by then so I can have yamaha fix/pay for it rather than me having to dig in there.

I was in the same camp as Scott Champion this weekend and he broke his second impeller in practice at Hangtown. Luckily his mechanic stopped him before he lost the motor. Rock River had one so he could make the race.

I've got 2 bike with 20 hours each and haven't had a problem yet but I'm getting the updated parts ASAP.

The design is the same as the YZ450. Has anyone heard of these going bad? I have one with 50 hours and no problems.

Still waiting on Yamaha to issue an update/recall for this, I know people have posted the shift shaft lever stopper part number but I cant order it anywhere and yamaha knows nothing about it. And everyone thats getting new parts dosent have a part number for the impeller. Getting really freaking frustrating.
