Do any of you guys race/ ride a YZ250. My son is starting racing again after a 3 year lay off and I have been offered a 2017 YZ250 with 3 hours on it. The last bike he had was a 14 CRF450 . He has put on a bit of weight the last couple of years so just really wanting to know should I get it or go with a 450. Thanks ??

HEY Capt'n ... might be good knowing your monumental girth. I know a 2fiddy with maybe a 8oz flywheel weight and a fatty pipe to help tame down the bark would be plenty enough.

Give me a call if you need someone to give it about 15hrs of indepth testing only a seasoned rider can offer.

Hahahahaha thanks .. he’s 220 pounds . Hoping to lose a bit of timber over the coming months riding. I see a lot more 2 strokes around now than I used to. The 250 seems really light and powerful and also cheap to maintain. Looks a good option to me

After a 3 year lay off a 250 2T is enough for anyone. No matter how tall or fat you are

Yep. 6'1" @ 224 Lbs.. A 250 2t has more than enough juice to hall my big frame around..

No problem with power ... but plan on heavier springs front and back.

I also went from a 14 crf450 to a yz250. Glad I made the switch.

This. I am north of 220 and ride a 125. Keep it lit and choose smart lines/carry tons of corner speed and the 250 will be like a rocket-propelled scalpel.

It depends on the rider. The YZ250 is more challenging to ride at the same pace as a 450. The two-stroke is more fun and rewarding. The 450 is easier to turn good consistent laps on.

I ride a YZ250, am 175 lbs, and won't buy a 450 due to cost. I'm more than happy with the YZ. I no longer race and just need a fun bike to enjoy.
